"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

OK, just looked up caponizing and looked at a picture explanation. Very interesting. Also realized it's not something I could do myself. DUHHH...Hoever, I did learn something new!!

Hang in there!! Ahhhh...teenagers...I have a 12 1/2 yr old. Look out July...here he comes!! I'm not sure I'm ready for that!
The idea of a closed flock that is sustainable is an interesting idea. I admit ignorance about caponizing. I have the general idea of the "outcome".

Keep pulling those boot staps, a beautiful spring is just around the corner!!
VERY much looking forward to spring gardening! The smell of the dirt is like heaven! I will feel much better once I get a little burn on my fair skin. Vitamin D overdose is a good thing for me, lol. My teen is 14 and just as tall as me, and outweighs me by a good 90lbs. Tough kid. One of these days though, they wake up are realize they really DON'T know it all.........we hope and pray, lol.

There are plenty of caponizing discussions here on BYC. It basically is removing the testes. I don't know if I could do it

Sounds good. I have those darn opossum and no telling what else, so I guess I couldn't use chicken wire. I would want them to be in there 24/7 and they would be in the back yard and not the chicken yard. I guess I could cover it with a tarp the size of the chicken tractor and nailed the sides down so that nothing gets in there.

Remember to make an angle in the top somehow or the water will pool and weigh down the top. Make your tractor based on lumber cuts (standard lengths are 6', 8', 10' and 12'), it will reduce time and bad cuts. The height of your tractor should be the height of your hardware cloth for ease and less cutting. My chicken wire was one piece for the sides all the way around. I had to use several pieces on the top and held them together with zip ties where I didn't have a support. You can either put a steep in the middle like a house or make one side higher then the other to help with the flow of the rain off. You can also use metal roofing but this makes it heavier. I opted for chicken wire covered with a tarp. Nail and staple guns make quick work out of the job but if you are nailing and stapling by hand you will soon learn to hate both.

I’ve cut my share of hogs and calves so I know I could do it but I have no need to. If anything I wish I could de-crow Silver sometimes. He is SO loud! And every morning, there is a crowing contest between my two roos and my cousin’s two roos across the road. It starts about 3 in the morning. Fortunately our bedroom is in the back so we don’t hear them until we start going outside.

My Cherokee Purple and Sweet Chelsea tomato seeds came today, whooo-hoooo!!!!!! Now I can start my tomatoes next weekend. I have to sterilize my mini-domes and get some potting soil mixed up.

Petrus Feed & Seed got in strawberry plants today – my folks were there when they were unloading them. I think I’ll fill up the old bath tub we used to water the horses in & get some to put in it. Fresh strawberries are sheer heaven!

X2 to everything you said. When asked the size of what I was building? The length of the lumber, was my reply. Lol

You are that! I could graze on fresh ones forever!

Hmmm, couldn’t find much information on the two varieties Petrus got in (Tristan and Loran) I think I’ll order my plants in from the nurseries – I want Camarosa, which is what the commercial growers in La. plant & Tangi or Chandler to cross-pollinate.

‘Cuz, you know, I need more projects!

And it's kinda the same way with bananas. I DO like bananas but I don't like bananas in my banana pudding . All I want is the banana pudding flavor and the vanilla wafers. Weird again!
