"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

You should try raising some of your own as well. I think everyone should at least try doing it at least once. If you don't like it, then you don't have to try it again. Small numbers of birds would be perfect. I'm glad that I took the plunge to experiment.

I think that's a good idea & plan to do so - maybe TSC here will have some meaties in Sat. when I go to town.

RavenLynn, what a great idea. Wonderful to Mama close. I moved in with my daughter Aimee and her family a couple of years ago and love it. Not perfect, mind you, but we get along so well. Enjoy the snow while you can.

I have both of my folks across the 10 acre field from where we live - we've lived next door for 35 years now - love it!

Yea, I think everyone who can should try there hand at anything and everything they can. I'm all about trying new things. Raising your own meat is an awesome experience. I think if we all try to raise meat birds, would be a great experience. At least try once. If it doesn't work out, then nothing lost. You can at least said that you tried. My family calls me the scientist cause I will try EVERYTHING. If someone tells me about it, you can be sure I will eventually try it. That's what life is all about. You never know until you do it.

C'mon Layers, let's raise our own meat birds. WE CAN DO THIS!!!!! :p

I'm in! Lol :gig

Oh yes no worries there! :) You're top of the list ;)

Hubby wants to start a frequent customer/incentive thing also and soon I'll figure somethin out. It's not huge but adds up :) and any previous purchase count too. I just gotta figure out a good deal that doesn't cost us too much either :th

We are getting another batch going shortly...this batch is Soooooo slowww in growing! We should be processing them in the next week or two and they look like they got another month. This batch came from our AG extension office order for 4-H, they were a great price and we ALMOST ordered 500 lol chickened out and did 50 :gig. Close call!
The lady I called to complain about super slow growths explained these 4-H CX broilers are the slower growing variety so they can better plan/time conditioning for the shows. They will get to size and weights, just slower lol but they didn't tell us that in the beginning, sorta messed up our timing! So how do we fix that? MORE CHICKENS! Mwahahaha, seems we have some standing order customers now and we don't want to disappoint :) we only got to eat one lol doh.

My girl and daddy talking chicken n rabbit lol don't worry bunnies are locked up tight every Tuesday.

Makes me hungry!! I'm so lucky that Angel is around the corner from me. I'm anxiously awaiting the next bunch. I think I can eat faster than they can get processed. Lol. Angel, I'm on your permanent client list, right??? Please......

Good to know about the super slow growers. This will be my last time ordering them. And to think I told several people about these birds. If it weren't for me, people would not have bought these slow growing birds. That's what I get for trying to help others. I had everyone purchasing these meatLESS birds. Sorry y'all. :gig I"m going to get about 10 meat birds from Tractor Supply this week. Oops, did I say that?

How long have you all been raising chickens and into "farming"?

You should try raising your own. You could get 5 or so and see what happens. It would be a good experiment for you. Then you can have meat in your backyard.

I think whatever "turning a blind eye" that goes on in my subdivision would rapidly change if I started processing chickens. Lol

How would they know?

It's a big risk. If word got out they would fine me and require me to get rid of my chickens and rabbits. I don't want to sell my house right now bec my 90 year old mother lives with me and wouldn't do well with a move. Right now, if I don't push the envelope, there are other backyard chickens in my neighborhood that will back me up if there's a problem. That said they would create a big fight. also in violation of city ordinance by having 5 chickens. I was not born to live in a subdivision. It's like being in prison. I am a few blocks from my grand kids which is why I built here. In March my grandson will have his license and already has a truck. But I want to be where my granddaughter can get on her bike and come over. I'm just ranting right now. But for now, my family must come first and keep me in this subdivision.
