"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Today I saw a pile of fence pickets, a ladder and boards by the road. I made three trips to get some.

On one trip I got a gate to hid an ugly view in my chicken yard. Here's before and after.

I got a huge heavy ladder that I am going to cut into three pieces and cement in the ground to make perches around the chicken yard.

I went back and got extra pickets to make a screen of another ugly view

Great find! I wish people around here threw things away. Everyone here reuses things till they are the size of a quarter then they are still trying to figure out a new use for it. So glad you car isn't green...I keep thinking about a green prius put putting down the road.

What a pretty bird!!!

Sadly, I may have to move into a subdivision for a while (still figuring things out) and it will be hard enough to "sneak" in 13 chickens with a coop and run!

Bummer, keep us informed.

Ants.. I kill off mounds every year by purchasing That cheap cheap version if windex. Stab their mound or home n the ground with a pitchfork or hoe, just make holes down in it. Make sure you go a foot around it too with holes. Then pour the bottle out Into it. Works for me every time. May not be dead but they are gone...
I see you haven't gotten the crazy ants yet! I will take a red wasp sting over their bite any day! Plus, their mounds are flat and cover 1/2 an acre each!

:thumbsup good deal. Good idea making perches out of the latter.

On a side note when they switch your friend to morphine that's when he will be close to leaving this earth. It slows breathing down. He may go into a coma toward the end. I just wanted to tell you so you have an idea what to expect. Thoughts and prayers for you and your friend. Pam

Please post pics of how you use your ladder as perches. I am considering different ideas for perching in the play yards that will be attached to our chicken house. Good score on all those things!

Thank you Pam. I didn't know about the morphine. He has trouble getting up and down and walking and he moans a lot. Is it possible he could die at home or is he doomed to be moved somewhere? I have no experience with this, but he does. His father died of cancer. He knows what is going to happen. He shares little bits with me.

He can choose hospice or a home nurse. Many people are bullied into dying at a hospital but it is not really required. It would be more peaceful if he could move on at home.

I was at TSC today to get egg cartons and found a long line of people needing replacement chicks. The store has had major die offs inside the store with the same set up that they did good with last year. They are still selling chicks but said that after the chicks are in the store for two days they are just dropping dead. The customers that have bought chicks from there are also having the same problem. Everyone suspects it is a hatchery problem. Has anyone else had this problem at their TSC? Trying to figure out if it is just this store or all of them.

Wonder who that particular hatchery is?
