"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Lol! Well we wanna stay an hour or so in distance from the general area for work when we get a chunk of land so I'll have to map it out and see what I can do. :gig we want to add pigs, turkeys and possibly a few beef cows :lau we can't do that in baton rouge no matter how much land we have to work with so we have to move eventually, we are getting there slowly.
Hum! I asked first! lol!! Maybe we can move her equil distance between us!! lmao!

See, got me there! Horses weren't in our plan but I LOVE having them around. My mom used to break green horses for the boys :gig and then we volunteered as stable hands for a stable of draft horses in Cali just to be around them :)

I love it!!!  We're fighting over Angel!!!  There's property right by me...high and dry!!!!  Plus....I have BABY HORSES!!!!  I WIN!!!!   LOL....

Babysitter trumps horses tho :gig we haven't had a babysitter for years. Lol no family here either. Always us or a lucky break for an hour or two if we need to have an appointment. :lau
No way! I'm closer to the lake,Children's museum , the Zoo,the aquarium, etc. and I have a pool! Lol ! And I'll take the kids to do those things while she and hubby can go out! I think I win! Lol! unfortunately primrose is winning right now lol!!! Pam

I was thinking that babysitter trumps horses too!!! LOL...You can drive over to visit the horses. A nearby babysitter is PRICELESS!!! I have gotten spoiled having my parents live nearby. They lived in Dallas until right before my oldest turned 4 (he's 12 1/2 now). Having a babysitter trumps almost EVERYTHING!!!

It'll be a year or two still, we got a late start at it, we are blue collar peeps who are trying to farm our way into retirement. Land buying/home buying all new to us...scary and exciting but feels like forever to get there! I am proud of each of you. We did it backwards sorta, but we do know what we like and don't like to raise or grow or butcher, how to do things , how to build things ourselves and are building a customer base now for when we make the plunge and buy our slice of heaven!
Forget it, Ladies! She's mine and she's not going anywhere!

Same size eggs?! I need a flock of them! One of the only reasons I avoided bantams was I was under the impression small bird tiny egg. :/ makes me a lil peeved I just got chicks going for my next set of layers and would have got double if I'd known lol maybe...now I gotta research!

I prefer them. Less space and feed required for the same size eggs. The downside to them is the fact that they are easier to carry off by hawks. I have banties, full size, and giants.

Great job! Make sure to rotate. I did this for about a year and stock piled toiletries, kitchen needs, canned goods and all sorts of things. Was a lot on my plate tho and once I had full cupboards I stopped and shouldn't have. I'm low now but made it about 2 years. Lost a few things to expiration dates on a set of "catch all" shelves :gig but all in all saved thousands. Hang in there. When Isaac storm hit many lost power for days I loaded up cases of bottled waters, bags of cup o soups, tuna, sardines, chili, toiletries and pet foods for people in need that didn't cost me anything but time couponing months earlier.
Hey y'all. How's it going? I am missing so much. Glad that you all are having fun !!!!!!!!!! It's all down hill for me. No fun at all. No need to explain at ALL!!!!!!!!!! :barnie :hit

The peas have started laying. :hit

My life will never be the same until January 2015. :/

The extreme couponing is going great!! Thanks to everyone who has been sending coupons. I have 1 bedroom full of stuff (toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo, soap, cereal, pasta - you name it I have it). Now, I have to find metal shelves to put all of this stuff on. :/

I think I need an intervention! :(

My bantam eggs are the size of a really small pecan. My large fowl eggs are three times that size. Pam
I have only gotten small eggs from one of my birds. The rest of the bantam hens I check for prolapse often because I can't believe the xl eggs they produce. Keep in mind mine are bantam production reds. The one with the small blue eggs also only lays once every three days.

Save up for really good fencing and hog rings! Pigs are worse at getting out then goats.
