We gave our little broody Frizz a few eggs to hatch. We have noticed the last few days the CUTEST thing! The other 3 bantam hens that are in with her go upstairs with her and eat and drink up there........talk to her......they sit on the opposite side, not crowding her and just keep her company. They are downstairs hardly at all now! I think it is just so sweet. Two of them are trying to give her more eggs(which I remove every day). They are such a sweet bunch.
Random fact. I bought fresh raspberries at Kroger tonight for 50cents a package!!! Whoot!! I feel some cherry & raspberry jam coming on........
I wonder if their is a herb snakes don't like? I may have to google that then plant everywhere!!! Pam
Snakes have super sensitive smell receptors. The hunt down via scents, hone in for a strike using heat sensing receptors in the snout and are offended by powerful smells.
I planted a large rosemary near a patio and when I walk by it I rough it up a lil to have the scent thicker in the air. Never even a garter snake on that patio and I've seen a mouse (snake food) and have baby birds nested in ground level potted plants (easy prey).
But you need to be able to tolerate the scent too of what ever ones you use. It doesn't have to be a "bad smell" just a strong one that's low enough to insult their nostrils while sniffing around for a mouse or other food. Cilantro works well to, I break it up fresh and stuff down cracks or hidy holes and they avoid it.
I need to plant something edible and strong around the rabbitry but I haven't a clue what could help deter the smell of 50 plus bunnies and 4 gardens full of spent bunny hay![]()
Yeah, but, when we would crank out 15 pages in a day Kuntrygirl would always be in the middle of it. If we want to pass Wisconsin we need her to get involved. Also, Jeff helped, but he doesn't come on here anymore, too many hens for him. Come on Jeff, I dare you to jump in. Cluck cluck
Moccasin (fanged and venomous, also common down here I'm learning), snakes I know. Fear them I don't, even the ones I should lol, I have studied them for many moons and bred large constrictors for years, but the ones that can kill you are so common here we kill 2-4 each Spring and again in fall. Copperheads scare me a bit. No rattling , great camo, not too aggressive so you don't notice movement but don't run away either so they're easy to step on or sit on and can be deadly.

Y'all are gonna flash mob the Petrus?Everyone bring a duck from Kuntrys...
I would allow a hundred aggressive buns attack me before one snake, even a non venemous one. I really hate snakes. Completely, every one of them every time. BTW, what kind of snake was that one you beheaded?
