"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I like that coop! I just wish I had the room to have one like that. I'm gonna be limited on the number of chickens I can have because of my space. I'm determined to have my 10 x 10 coop with a decent sized run, but I know I can't have a whole lot of chicks in that small of a coop.

Okay , I am the new kid on the block . My name is Stephen and I will soon be 54 . I am a retired meat-cutter , my lovely wife still manages a grocery store . I have had pigeons on and off during my life , we bought a house in Olla and this is where we will die . She was raised here and I am formerly from Monroe . I have had parrots for 4 years now and love them . Got my first chickens a little over a year ago and wondered how I had missed out on yet another great bird that is social . I love my wife very much and I love Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior even more . That's kind of a thumb nail sketch . I am on here a lot now reading and learning . Any advice is greatly appreciated . Down the road I would like to get an incubator and do that aspect also . I like coffee and good conversation . I like this thread because we are local folk . I try to buy made in the U.S.A. as much as possible and another reason I like the home folk is keeping the money here in our state , taking care of each other , example , I would rather buy from Susie that lives in Alex rather than Sam in Kansas , support our local growers and sellers is what I am trying to say .

Question : Flies seem to be the topic , does putting lime down in and around the coop help keep the flies down ? Pigeons believe it or not do not draw near about what my chickens are .

Thanks!! You can have 20 in that space and that's going 5 square foot per bird and it usually recommends 4!! You would just need a run double that size!!

anyway! I'm really trying to learn everything I can before I am ready for my chicks. By the way, I am Peggy and will be 39 at the end of the month. Lived in Monroe/Swartz for 18 years before moving to Va. Left there and moved to Little Rock, Ar. Now am back in La, just outside of Bastrop taking care of my disabled father.

Good ice cream in Mer Rouge or use to be . Do you know Joyce that raises all the little exotic birds ?

You just made my day!

I had already planned for the run to be at least twice if not 3 times that size. But that is about all I can go. If I didn't think my dogs would eat 'em up I could have more in the backyard. But I am so afraid that they will so I'm not sure if I want to take that chance.

There is still great ice cream in Mer Rouge. LOL I've got my kids hooked on it now. I've been eating that ice cream since I was 3.

I don't know many people in this area at all. I've only been here for a little over a year this time and I am not able to get away from the house much. That is why when I saw the chickens and fell in love with them that I decided I could do that. I'm always at home.
