"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Good to know that you can join 4-h when homeschooling. My little girl goes to school next year, but we will be homeschooling a few years after that. We have horrible schools here. I really have been wondering if she could still participate in 4-h.

We're in St Landry parish, and I'm so thankful that my daughters elementary school is pretty decent. After that, we will either have to move or homeschool.

I see that we are from the same town. Can you PM me to tell me which school your daughters attend? We are also having the "either move or homeschool" talk.

May I ask what breed you have from Mr. Blosl??
When Mr Blosl passed away, Ken Weaver inherited his birds. Or bought them. These came directly from eggs from him. White Plymouth Rocks. The XW breed of same is some that Ken also sells. They are both great birds. To see the chicks, Blosl's have a slight grayish yellow tint and XW is totally yellow.

I so agree with this. Unless you are giving them to someone you know (or at least know their reputation with animals), I would definitely list them for sale. That way, only someone who is serious about them may reply. I have often listed a bird for sale and ended up selling at a reduced price at pickup because it was evident during our correspondence that the person would care for them properly. I even list my extra cockerels for sale on the FB groups or Craigslist. This is the only place I have ever offered any bird for free.
I know it sounds like $30 is a high price for a 5 month old pullet, but have you charted and calculated the cost to raise them to that age? You really might be surprised. I feed all organic so my feed bill is inflated, but just in feed I average $5 per bird per month. That doesn't include any costs such as building materials for housing & repairs to existing structures and watering systems, and anything else you buy such as bedding, ACV, wormers, etc. I don't even take into consideration the time I've invested because I enjoy it so much. I definitely don't make a profit and wouldn't make it as a business, but I try to recoup at least some of the feed cost.
Good to know !!!! Thanks

I don't know anyone who is looking right now and my girls have already started on their chosen breed.   Maybe try looking on facebook on a 4-H page or a Louisiana chicken swap page.  I'm sure they would go quick, but I think you should sell them for at least a little bit.  It helps to deter the crazy people that are out to just get something free and resell it for a high price.  Hope you find them a nice home.

Thanks for the advice I hadn't thought about that!!

I have only offered them here for free and only for 4H. Otherwise it will be a sale. I also feed organic. Are you buying from azure standard? The feed is reasonable compared to retail.
Lemon they have a 20 dollar brand. I know you wanted to go organic but 20 was your limit. It looks like conventional feed they make a pellet. My girls are used to grains so they turned their nose up at it.
I use the soy and corn free. Soy transfers phyto estrogen into the eggs. They have 3 or 4 brands to choose from.
I sell my extra eggs to recoop some of the cost. Organic free ranged eggs are 6.99 at whole foods and rouses. I sell mine for 4.00. Pam

I have great news. My other Legbar hen laid her first egg this one is blue the color doesn't show true in the picture. It's darker than the picture. Linda I was asking about you Swedish flower chicks?
700

The blue green one is the other hen. Now just waiting on the Bielefelders.

Ahh, I was wondering if maybe it was his RIR's. I recently got a few cockerels and will be looking for pullets/hens in the near future. I too am trying to bring some good blood down this way.
