"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

For those of you in the Covington area, is there a local vet that deals with chickens and ducks? One of my ducks hurt her leg really badly and all my chickens are suffering from something. Do I need to take them to LSU? Thanks for the advice.

I don't know of any vet that treats birds in covington. There is one in metaire. Coington has an emergency vet if they don't treat birds they can tell you who does. What happened to your duck and how have you treated it? Pam

I'm not sure what happened to her. She was already in the coop when I got home last night and this morning she wasn't able to walk. It was clear that there are several cuts on her leg, but I'm not sure if it is broken. I put her in our bathtub and cleaned her off and disinfected the area. But she is clearly in a lot of pain. It is sad. I'm not sure if she got caught in something or a critter got a hold of her.

I gave them a couple handfuls of the feed you sent and mixed a handful of the Petrus layer feed with it, when i checked back later they had eaten the layer feed completely, i built her a nest box and put it in the coop about dark, maybe i will find another prize in the morning.

My birds like the Petrus layer feed better than what we can get locally. That egg is a purdy color. Will definitely have to get me some eventually

Hi everyone. Primrose is back to her normal weird self. Lol. Giving them lots of mealworms, egg and oatmeal/berries. I feel so sorry for them molting in cold weather. I have winterized, round one. If it gets really cold, I'll do another layer of insulation. The panels I built fit perfectly to cover the hardware cloth sides.

@LaDoodler, do you get your feed in LC? We usually get it from the TSC in Moss Bluff. I'm going to try that feed store on Broad today.

I think I need to switch to pellets. We went through the whole 50 lbs of crumbles in a week with only 15 chickens. Better feeders would help, too. We just need a few changes all around. ;)
