"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Thought I would finally get some stuff in the ground today. Apparently the chickens thought I said "salad bar!"

I'll give it to you my note's on my skincare recipes are down stairs so I'll PM you tomorrow. Pam

Didn't make it to Petrus at all. We just hung out and played with chickens after the processing. He's got a RIR rooster that dances for him and brings him gifts. Super funny to watch. Then he's got four juveniles from his first hatch, and about a dozen in the brooder from his second. They're so cute. He has the RIR roo and a barred rock, and hens are RIR, BR, and SLW. A couple of chicks are yellow with black speckles, super cute.

All in all, a good day with friends. :)

Wow, what an amazing day you must have had.    Good for you.    Don't you feel great?   :thumbsup

Felt better after a shower. ;)

Last night I was actually a little nervous. But my friend the way he sees it, even if everything goes totally wrong and we totally botch the "quick kill" it's still a better life and death than the factories. That relieved some pressure. And it was a really streamlined process, about 3-4 minutes to bleed/pluck, then a few more to clean and dress. I was all done by 11 (started at 7) and went to help with lunch. The guys were totally done (packaging and all cleanup) by 1.

And now the DH is planning for meat birds of our own. :lau

I have a pic of the cones and frame, if anyone is interested. And I can get pictures of the plucker. It's all homemade, but super impressive. He even has homemade "drying rack" for after they're washed but before they're packaged.

I'm interested -please do post pics! If I get a good hatch out of my RIR eggs I do want to process any extra roos. Plus may do meat birds down the road.

I hope the 2 I got from you are hens. I'll have to look closer tomorrow. I'll be looking for eggs from then soon that would be great. I have more egg customers than eggs. Pam

The ones you got is not suppose to lay until Jan. Martha was about 3 months old when I got the others.
