Thought I would finally get some stuff in the ground today. Apparently the chickens thought I said "salad bar!"

Wow, what an amazing day you must have had. Good for you. Don't you feel great?Well, I did it. Killed, bled, scalded, plucked, and heads/feet. Didn't gut or package this time, maybe next. 40+ meaties and three turkeys. I was totally covered in gross. Good experience, though.![]()

Felt better after a shower.![]()
Last night I was actually a little nervous. But my friend the way he sees it, even if everything goes totally wrong and we totally botch the "quick kill" it's still a better life and death than the factories. That relieved some pressure. And it was a really streamlined process, about 3-4 minutes to bleed/pluck, then a few more to clean and dress. I was all done by 11 (started at 7) and went to help with lunch. The guys were totally done (packaging and all cleanup) by 1.
And now the DH is planning for meat birds of our own.![]()
I have a pic of the cones and frame, if anyone is interested. And I can get pictures of the plucker. It's all homemade, but super impressive. He even has homemade "drying rack" for after they're washed but before they're packaged.

I hope the 2 I got from you are hens. I'll have to look closer tomorrow. I'll be looking for eggs from then soon that would be great. I have more egg customers than eggs. Pam
