Take a close look a that comb I hope it's the pic. It looks like white streaks. Thats how my birds looked before the foul pox showed up. Hope It's just the pic. Pam

Woohoo, early Christmas present. For me anyways. Gson AJ got his birthday/Christmas present early, an 56 or something inch TV. Soooooo I get his newish 32" TV for my bedroom. Perfect for me. It's only 10' away from my chair and I'm in heaven. Renew, Reuse, Repurpose. ha

How is egg production for everyone? I got one last week, from the broken-beaked RIW. No sussex eggs since adding the RIWs to the flock in early October. It's annoying. :/

I've had my pullets since August, and they were probably 4 weeks old when I got them. So... five months? I'm ready for an Australorp egg. No idea on the age of the orpingtons. I keep reminding myself that I could really be pretty far from eggs, especially since I don't want to go through the hassle (expense) of adding a light to the coop. Still, that's the most exciting part of chickens, right? Egg hunting? I mean the rest of it is fun, too, but I love the eggs. 

I'm going to worm everyone today, since I'm not getting eggs anyway, and dust them for mites. Wish I had been home yesterday while the weather was still warm. 

We are getting 11-14 chicken eggs and 2-5 duck eggs. But we do have a light in the coop.

Glad you joined us! yep, "chicken math" has taken hold of you! I started with "just 3 little hens" years ago -- now have 24 eggs in the bator due to hatch this week, in addition to my flock of 12.

Hi all, I'm new to this site and chickens too. So glad I found this post with other folks in the area!
I got 4 chicks for my little one at Easter which ended up being 2 Roos and 2 hens. Somewhere along the way this turned into a new hobby for me. (Funny how that works). Last week I picked up 5 Campine chicks (1 roo, 4 girls) and an Araucana girl that are all about 8 weeks old now. Working to finish their coop and building another one too.

Welcome, I started with 20 in March, i only have 78 now, going to load my incubator Tuesday with 42 of my own firtile eggs, I HOPE, and see what i can hatch.

Well, I don't. But by a flip of the same coin, how do I know they don't?

I've seen LOTS of open-mouthed neck stretching, which makes me think of gape worm. I've read it's not that common, but I kind of just have that sort of luck with chickens. I bought the safeguard paste because they say it's practically impossible to overdose them, and with the correct course of treatment it kills every kind of worm.

I've never wormed them, but with our dogs, woods, and wet ground I'd almost be surprised if they didn't. How would wormer react with their gut bacteria? I could dust for mites, give probiotics, and worm in a few weeks depending on how things look.

I agree that they've been through a lot lately. All but the two look great. I even saw the rooster mount a hen today, which is always a good sign.

I thought the same when mine had just gotten over being sick. I saw them stretching their necks gasping. So after trying the natural road i gave them all ivermectin and just revised to worry about after that. I give them a fermented feed, so i know they get a lot of good gut bacteria. I just didn't want to lose anymore of the flock or have them pass it on to the ducks. Sometimes it seems like one thing right after another. .. but they are doing great now!

I need to go find that thread. My husband traded with a lady he works with for some eggs from her Buff Orpingtons and her new RIR hens. They are going to be for our youngest to pick a few for raising for 4-H. We are supposed to get them Tuesday. But will have to wait until the ones in the incubator pop out first.......then Lock and Load again!

I got 32 yesterday and 27 today, some are in molt and only lay about 5 a week, RSLs haven't missed a beat, 10 for 10 everyday, plus EEs and Ameracaunas begining to lay, I have sold 18 dz since Tuesdayand have 7 dz in fridge ready to go.Plus all we can eat and use.
