If I wasn't trying to stick to particular breeds I'd be a customer.

My sister may be interested in some Maran over EE/OE. I'll point her in your direction. She just hatched out about 90 birds, barnyard mix. Wanted to double her flock so I think she has about 190 birds now.

She's the one that twisted my arm and talked me into getting chickens.

So its all in the family. It was 26 eggs I started with not 27 my mistake. Pam

I stayed up too late making "hand-crafted, unique and individual" birthday invitations for my daughter's class. 22 kids in that class. :/

Day 14, time to candle. I did it quickly, didn't weigh, and could hardly see a thing because I'm so sleepy. One no change from the last time, 10 dark floaty things that I hope are chicks. Guess I'll try to do the eggtopsy this time, since it's not smelly. I couldn't really see the air cells? I can't rember if that's normal.

I'm up late too. As you get closer to hatch day its easier to tell. Dark mass is chicks. This time I candeled from light at top and would move to side of egg. This workes better for me than lighting the bottom up. Pam

It's been a long time since I've had a suspected chicken ailment, so I'm due.:

Anyway, it's hard to tell but my rooster's comb is dripping blood. He's had those black spots for a few months; I gave him a good look last week and they appear to be on his comb, and not a parasite. I've seen the hens picking them off (he didn't seem to mind) so I'm sure that's what happened today.

Thoughts?

The dark spots could just be dried blood that the hens are continuing to pick off. My smallest hen has them because the others pick on her at night before they roost.

It also looks like your Roo just ate a bunch of dirt, LOL.

Haha, probably. They have sand in the run and they ALL ran out looking like that.

I don't think it's just dried blood. Here it is a few months ago, before they started picking it all the time.
