Found my first FBCM egg in the chicken yard this morning.

The first ones are always so exciting when a pullet starts laying. :)

I was just trying to find that picture Pam, lol.

Anyway, congratulations to flypen, topdog and Cody on all your new hatchlings. I only have a handful of babies in the brooder for chicken nugget purposes. :D. And we have what looks to be 3 black frizzled Cochin, 1 flat black and 2 black mottled. Cuties of course.

A mottled Cochin from that last batch. Oh, I forgot this one is already frizzled. So sweet when they sleep like that.

I've seen a couple of reports of people having their personal pictures, of their really nice show birds copied and used by other people on places like ebay for advertising purposes.  That really stinks when things don't come out like you want.  Shipped eggs are a gamble even if you know the breeder is reputable.  Sorry this happened, I know that has to be really stressful!!!  I have a pair of really nice black cochin bantams, but we won't have any extra eggs for quite awhile I am sure.  :hugs

Now I know why people ask me for pics of my stock. I'm happy to do it I work really hard to keep them in top condition. We all make mistakes dealing with not so honest people. Now I ask a ton of questions and pics etc. Pam

wanted to share a picture of my baby bed Brooder that I used this winter. I have made a makeshift roof outside where it will be placed for the upcoming warm weather months. It has been an awesome inside brooder. and a couple pictures of my babies and babies to be. If anyone would like fertile americana eggs please let me know. I also have 3 week old chicks that are healthy and happy. And I always have them incubating and hatching. The two roos are blue wheaton...

Manda, I really like your brooder bed

Sorry to hear about your weak chicks and having to assist. I'm new to all this but I think shipping is really hard on egg/embryo development. There's so many variables regarding how they're handled, temps they go through, the age of the egg, fertility, age and diet of the parent stock and others I'm sure I'm not naming. I find it amazing that it can be done in the first place. Since shipped eggs can't be guaranteed it lets the seller off the hook pretty easily doesn't it. "Out of Sight Guarantee"

I'm looking forward to being able to hatch my own unshipped eggs.

Anyone have any experience with raising red wigglers for worm castings for the garden? Or whatever kind of worm works for that. Worm castings are SO expensive. I don't mind doing the work to get them going. Also wondering about anyone else's composting bin. I decided to just make a whole garden bed into a compost bed for a few months. It's been the best compost pile we've ever done. Cooking like crazy. Not because we know what we are doing of course. Lol. It's just the worms in there getting after it I guess.
