"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Happy Easter to all. I hope everyone has a nice day. We are due for some rest! Going to have lunch with his family. But hubby says he is going to work on the pergola (I think that's what you call it) for the Muscadine. So far we have 2 decent sized vines from the one we rescued from the rental property some time back. It is loaded with blooms. But we have never gotten fruit. Last fall we planted another 2varieties we bought from Lowes. Only one has come back so far. But we kept the tag on it so I can replace it if needed. Our thoughts were that the older big vine needed cross pollination from another variety. So we will see if we get any fruit this year. There will be no cross pollination this time because the new ones are too small. The vibe is going all the way across in front of our little chicken barn and over an arch in front if the door. 2 vines planted out at each corner. So they will stretch across somewhere between 36-40 ft.

A shot of just a little spot, you can see all the buds it's loaded with.

I'm curious if anyone has tried growing potatoes in bins similar to what we are trying this year. It would be great if it works and we can just dump that bin over! No digging.

I've also finally gotten my red worms going in a little "worm farm". The gas station close by gets them for fishing. I did it a lazy way and just threw in a bit of that compost we got. I didn't have time to hunt down and shred up paper. I may add some later though. They aren't dead......so I guess that is a good sign! :lau

I've got 28 chicks and 19 eggs left. Day 21 started at noon today. The SS are really starting to pop out now. Only two of the SS mix left. So hybrid vigor wins out? EEs are second, and SS are catching up. The OE are starting to lag now.

Happy Easter! Woke up to four chicks hatched. Tomorrow is day 21 so a day early.

What could be better than new chicks hatching on Easter. Congrats to you both!

My broody squished a chick. :(

How will I know if she's going to mama them, or if she's going to keep setting and waiting for eggs (she doesn't have) to hatch?

They're pretty and I would rather put them in the brooder than lose them.

Oh no! That is scary with AI going around. I hope it's just an upper respiratory inf like camping said.
They are responding to antibiotics and poly vi sol, been isolated, they are not among the main flock of layers, i think the weather has something to do with it/ coop conditions have been poor due to excessive rain, the 2 showing signs have been removed to a remote area and are being monitored for change.

I have a couple of old pics on my phone, likely from last year. They are pics of young pullets taken with my cell, but it can give you an idea. I did not grow out any black laced or splash laced from my last generation.

My dad is lucky to be alive as well. He wouldn't have had such a difficult time though if he wouldn't be so hardheaded. He does not seek medical attention until it is dire.

They all look nice, I like the black laced. Hubby's favorite is the blue laced so I want to get a couple of those for sure, but I would take others. Probably be easier to talk, I'll pm you my number. Also, there is someone in Butte La Rose that has some hatching later this week. I found the add on craigslist so I don't know anything else.

Hey Pam (or anyone else) can you remind me of the difference between Amerecaunas and EEs? The lady I got eggs from said she bought her birds as Amerecaunas but they turned out to be EEs. I've called my chicks EEs, but someone asked me today of they were real EEs or barnyard mixes, and I was just curious. :)
