I don't need anymore Roosters just wanted to say hi and tell us about your flock what else do you have besides Whynots thats what I call Wynadottes. Wellcome to the La-yers we like pics too.Pam

Happy new year! Sorry I missed the actual day. We're still traveling, but finally headed home! :weee

DH and I have decided to start up with another chicken breed. He wants a breed that people are at least semi-familiar with (had trouble getting some footing with the speckled sussex), so we can sell hatching eggs and started birds at about the same rates as the sussex. I want to start with decent stock. Good feed conversion is a plus, egg production doesn't have to be super high. Average is fine. These are going to be our personal birds, so they don't have to be as gentle or friendly as the camp's birds.

Any suggestions? The blue-laced red wyandottes are popular around me; folks have a hard time getting them. I wouldn't mind having polish/frizzled polish because they come in so many colors.

Just dropping in to say best wishes for 2016 for all of you! I miss my chickens for now, but I'm not done yet, I'll be back one day. In the meanwhile, ya'll keep posting as many pics as you can so I can get my "chicken fix"! Love hearing all of your stories!

Was it a double yolk?

We haven't cracked it open yet, but I'l take a picture if it's interesting!

I have the Jill Rees legbars and Rhodebars. They are both auto sexing and together you would have auto sexing Easter eggers which are popular. And great layers! I'd give you a great deal. Other than that the other breeds I have are great and gentle too. The picture are in the post above. I have Barnvelders hatching in a couple weeks, but those are promised to someone, I should be setting more next week and some lyonnaise the week after. Pm me if your interested, I would love to share. The Barnvelders, lyonnaise and Cream Crested Legbars came directly from Greenfire Farms. The Langshans and Rhodebars came from reputable breeders. The Langshans came from show quality stock. :)

Good to hear from you. Look and see what other breeds besides whynots are in demand on the local for sale pages and groups. Might help you pick a breed. Auto sexing is always popular. Pam

MY FIRST GREEN EGG. The lady who watched them was feeding scratch and apparently that's the key to eggs. :lau Spoiled girls... Those are the six eggs I came home to. She said she was getting 3-6 a day, I'm so pleased! I'm tempted to attempt to incubate, but I think it's been 3 weeks since we lost the rooster.

Great news! Open one and see if they are fertilized. Then you won't need hatching eggs right away. It will give you time to decide on a breed. Pam
