Finally my Black Orpingtons are laying.

Mrs Pam, you are always so helpful and kind. I should have specified that I'm looking for an LP cockerel. I have 4 girls from Brenda and I want to keep the line pure. I spoke with her in December about getting a male, but she would have to hatch one out for me and I think she may be too busy. Your male is beautiful though and I love his color.

No problem he will find a home one day. Pam

I have a black orpington hen that I want to eventually put in a breeding pen with my black orpington cockerel and pullet when they are old enough to start breeding. I had a blue orpington hen I was planning on adding in with them to have a bbs pen but my dog got her one day. :(

Hey Pam. Everything is great my way. Thank you for asking and thinking of me.
All my birds are doing well. I get so many eggs now I don't know what to do with them.
The barbs are still growing and the pullets are such good layers. I haven't culled any cockerels yet. Looks like I may have to put my plans for a 2nd coop and breeding pens on hold for awhile.
I'm finally in the financial position to build a house. Probably won't be until next year. I'm saving all my extra money to put toward it instead of chicken stuff.
It will involve tearing down the existing structure I live in and renting an apartment for awhile. I have a contractor that will work with me. So I will be working on the construction of the house to save as much money as I can. I'm getting an early start so the last few days I've been cutting trees to make way for the dirt work. I'm designing it myself and will have someone draw up the construction plans.

I'm so glad Spring is finally here. I plan to do a small garden again this season.

Sounds like you have a good plan for the house and it should be very satisfying and rewarding to help build it. When we built our house a few years ago, my wife and I did as much work as we could to save some money. It was worth it in the end but was a rough 8 months. Good luck with your build and your small garden. We are planting a small one this spring as well, our first. LSU is having a gardening expo in Baton Rouge at the Parker rodeo arena on March 12th. I'm going to try to learn as much as possible lol.

That is great news Cody. Sell those extra eggs as hatching eggs. They can help you save more money. How exciting we did the same thing. I haven't processed any yet either but the time is coming . They do lay nice big eggs.. Apartment living sucks I would rather get a camper with the six months rent then keep it to travel or sell to recoop money. Just a thought. I hope you will keep in touch and show pics. Happy for you. Pam
I've thought of doing just that-the camper- but I'd still need to rent a storage unit for all my stuff so the apartment is the most sensible thing to do in my case. It's gonna be awhile before this happens.
I know this sounds bad but It will be best if my old dog passed before I start anything. He's almost 17 yrs old, is incontinent, driving me crazy with the pooping and peeing in his bead and dropping it on the floor because he doesn't know when it's coming out. Also his hips are giving him problems so he has trouble getting up and climbing the steps to the house. He's pretty much on his last leg. It would be hard for me and him if I took him to a place in town where he'd have to be put on a leash whenever he wants to go out. Also because I know he would get run over. Then bring him back to a new house with new floors is too much for me.

Yea, I need to take before and after pics when it does get started. I looked at the bee hives your getting. That's a neat way to get the honey out.
I'm still here everyday reading posts and keeping up. I haven't gone anywhere I just don't ever post. I don't mean to just eavesdrop. :)

Hey Turk! :) Like your new avatar. ;)

Possum, in the past I almost bid on your Biele eggs on ebay.

Thank you Cajun Chicken. The gardening expo sounds neat. Wish it wasn't so far from me.

They are beautiful. I have a young black roo about 8 months old and I hope he looks like that wehn he's full grown. Do you know about how much your roo weighs?

I'm not sure but he is a nice size. I can weigh him tom but would guess bet 9-10 lbs. He is around 8 months old so He has a little ways to go yet. I do have some extra Roos. Some split for Choc mottled that I would love to rehome. I also have some Choc orp Roos I need to sell.

We did some work on the coop this weekend.....wanted to share a pic. Still have two more breeding pens to build but it takes time. We will be breeding chocolate orpingtons in one, Black orp roo to lavender hens in one and the other pen is for our layers. I'm going to extend the roof another 16 feet to the left.
