"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

We flooded at my place in Zachary too. 2ft in my trailer Means 5 in the coops. I only have a handful of birds left, but like my dear friend @lakones these few are all I can manage for a little while. My thoughts and Prayers are with all of you whom this water is moving Toward right now.

I was wondering how you were affected. I'm so sorry for your loss and everyone else affected. Prayers and good vibes it all gets cleaned up quickly. Where are you staying? Pam

I made it through the weather high and mostly dry, but in the past have been flooded by hurricane surges. What I do to clean up is... Open the wet walls and wash them out, VENTILATE VENTILATE VENTILATE, when the walls & stud have dried, vacuum off all the areas that had been wet, may have a powdery mold growing that will vacuum off, then mix 3 parts water and 1 part bleach in a pump sprayer and spray all the wood that was wet. let dry again and repeat if anything grows back. This has worked twice in the past for me.

Hello,I have had mold before due to a hurricane. Yes bleach is effective, but must be mixed half water, half bleach.I put it in a spray pump and sprayed down everything really well. Please wear like a rain coat, cover your skin well and wear a GOOD rated mask such as is rated for sheet rock work. You can get chemical burns of the skin and in lungs if you don't wear a mask. My first time I did this,I didn't cover my face and arms and I ended up with chemical burns on my face and arms from the fine spray of th epump. Afterwards let sit about 24 hrs, then I would buy a dehumidifier and run it non stop for days before you recover any areas sprayed. Please know I am not trying to tell you what to do,just I have had hurricane damage 3 times and had to go down to studs in the walls,so I have had a lil experience.... God Bless U....Prayers to ya!

Thank you.

Hope everyone has started to dry out!!! The last 9 days or so have just flown by. We were lucky in that my mom in law did not flood so we had a place to stay. We'd get up each morning, eat a quick bite and off to the house to tear out some more walls, throw out wet stuff and pack up dry stuff. It has be a whirlwind for sure. I've still got 2 sets of cabinets to pull then wait till everything dries before starting to process of putting things back together. It is the same for literally hundreds of our family, friends and neighbors. But we are a pretty tough group here in Louisiana and we will repair, rebuild or whatever it takes to keep our families safe and get back to a normal life. Even for our chicken children!! Let me just say that I have some of the best neighbors ever! One of them is letting me house all of my chickens in his barn and two other neighbors are taking total care of them. I still get to go see them and get my chicken hugs, but best of all I know they are being taken care of. When/if I'm ready I can move them back here or just leave them and have "neighborhood chickens". What a relief to have friends and neighbors like that.
Y'all be safe!

Hey there La-yer peeps! Today is the first time I've logged in in a good while, I'm sorry to hear that some of you in my area flooded and lost property, birds, etc. Fortunately, we were one of the lucky few that did not flood in the City of Central. The latest number I heard was 25,000 of 27,000 total residents were flooded. My flock of 20 pullets fared really well during the storms and they were able to hide out on the roost only venturing out when the rain would slack up. The last week has been spent helping family gut houses from floor to ceiling, tearing out cabinets, showers, and everything else in the houses. I have an overwhelming feeling of guilt because we were dry and so many have lost everything. We have been trying to help in any way we can including cooking meals for those affected and helping with demo plus we also took in 7 family members from the Zachary/Central area that are displaced. I have a few pictures from the first couple of days during the flood that I am posting. I want to wish everyone affected good luck in rebuilding and hopefully get back to normal soon.

A tornado hit about a mile from my house Friday (Aug. 12th) morning and took out a few roofs and flipped a camper over.

Indian mound store. This is early Sat morning before the water got really deep. They ended up with 4 ft of water in the store.

We launched in front of the Dollar store at Indian mound to get my cousin's family out from Old Greenwell springs rd.

My other cousin's house in Indian Mound early Sat morning. Ended up with 18" in the house later that afternoon.

My truck parked as close as I could get to the house to load up a few belongings.

Anyone around Livingston want a beautiful black Australorp cockeral. He survived the floods in Walker and is deserving of a wonderful home. Had I not already got 2 cockerals in a super small flock of 16, along with dealing with a plethora of health problems with my own birds from the rain and water, I would keep him. He's being housed at my in laws away from other birds. He appears pretty healthy, outwardly. Very sweet temperament, so far. Please let me know. The pics don't do him justice. He's magnificent, and huge for being rather young.
