I understand how you feel. I started having migraine headaches when I was a young child. My parents told me that I would run and scream through the house as I held my head in my hands. They had no idea what was wrong with me. They took me to the eye doctor, the family practice doctor and probably the witch doctor but no one could figure out what was wrong with me. They thought I was acting out. Later on in life I recognized the signals and knew that I had migraine headaches. That's when I made an appointment to see a neurologist. He confirmed what I already knew. Over the course of a couple of years, I was on the following meds:

Imitrex pills
Imitrex Nasal
Imitrex injections
Inderal
Maxalt
Zomig

I HATE taking drugs and I didn't like the different side effects, so I went to the "lab" and began the road to "End These Headaches". The miracle cure which after reading many natural remedy articles consists of .........well this may sounds corny but this is what I did......

Because our bodies have a mixture of certain chemicals, we react to different things put in our bodies. I found that the following ingredients/things helped me rid my migraine headaches. This experiment will not help everyone.

DISCLAIMER: Please do not try this at home. Only I (the mad scientist) from time to time will make myself a lab rat.

I stopped taking ALL MEDS COLD TURKEY. I accepted the migraine pain as I took the role of the rat in the science lab.

MY EXPERIMENT:

Lycopene (anti-oxidant found in fruits and vegetable) - Increased my intake of tomatoes AND ketchup, watermelon and pink grapefruit. (DAILY INTAKE)
HOT caffeine free Green Tea - Each time I got a migraine, I quickly made a hot cup of hot tea and went to bed. I woke up with NO migraine. After that, I drank a cup of hot tea in the AM and PM.
Green Tea extract pills - OTC -(150mg - 2 capsules twice a day with meals)
Quit drinking caffeine free drinks (Although at the same time, drinks that contain caffeine will relieve a migraine.)
Made a list of all of the foods (food allergies) that cause migraines and totally eliminated these foods from
my diet.
MSG, Cheese and other dairy products, Yeast, Wheat, Nuts, Pork, Vinegar, and Chocolate.

After about 2 months, I noticed that I was NOT having any more migraine headaches and I was not on any meds. From that point on, I continued my Lycopene and Green Tea intake and my headaches have been history ever since.

Although I have added some of the food allergies back in my diet, I still have not had a migraine headache.

This was just an experiment but it worked for me.

I tell you what about that green tea -- my Dad swears by it & has been drinking it for years. Several years ago, Daddy was diagnosed with bladder cancer. He came through the surgery with flying colors, did not have to have any chemo or radiation & has remained in remission. He drinks green tea every day. He is very very careful about what he eats.

I definitely think you are on to something Julie esp in giving up a lot of what I've read are the main "allergy triggers".

I have been allergic to milk & dairy products all of my life -- was raised on soybean formula back in the 1950's -- I can tell you from vast experience if I get into too much dairy protein, I am like a dog who has been poisoned! and it can only work out of my system before I get better.

I agree with your Dad. I know that Green Tea is the miracle cure. Since drinking green tea and taking green tea extract pills years ago, I have not had a cold, flu, stomach ache, etc. I have not missed 1 single day of work in 15 years. From time to time, I get a sinus headache from inhaling heavy perfumes, scents (like this weekend) but for the most part, I am really not sick. I think it's because of my green tea intake. I have not had to see a medical doctor for any type of illness for the past 15 few years. I get my annual check ups but that is it.

My next lab experiment is finding out how to never get a sinus headache. Will post my lab results in about 3 years. I'm sure that is how long it will take me to come up with my miracle cure.

People who know me buy me green tea for my birthday and Christmas. They know how much I love it and I swear by it. I keep a bottle of the green tea extract tabs on my desk in my office and at home. I take them religously. Green tea is what keeps me healthy and out of the doctor's office.

$3.00 a bottle at Wal Mart

Are you guys growing tea? I'm considering it. Camelias grow great for me here, so I figured it would be worth a try.

I'm not growing but would very interested in learning more. Would be a great project. Is it difficult to grow? What does it look like and how do you brew it for hot tea? Would love to hear more from you about growing tea.

If I understand correctly, it's just a Camelia species and looks just like the ornamental ones save for the white blooms. For green tea one would just snip off the new growth and brew?
