"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

OK opinions please! I got a call & have a job interview Thurs at a local nonprofit.
Part-time (32 hrs week), lousy pay, no benefits, not even unemployment. I hate the location too (downtown near "drug alley" & they make the employees park on the street!)

So do I go on the premise that in this economy, "any job is better than no job" or hang tight & see what else comes along -- my unemployment that I am drawing right now is almost exactly the same amount I'd be making working for these clowns.

Frankly, I really have enjoyed the last couple weeks at home & could use a few more before I get out there & hit the streets looking. This is the first time in several years that I am "off" without it being for a family member being sick, having surgery, me having surgery, or a funeral - you get the picture -- this is the first thing even remotely resembling "time off" I've had without stress in forever.

Am I selfish to want a few more weeks to myself before I go back into the workplace world? or should I jump on the first opportunity that presents itself, because any paycheck is better than no paycheck at all? I have a pretty good idea that if I go to the interview, I will be offered the job... I know a couple of the people who work there.

3 strikes and you're out!

You are not selfish to want a few more weeks of "Me Time". You deserve it. You have worked hard for a long time and now you need a little time to unwind and re-fuel and re-charge. Just like you got this offer, you will get plenty more and EVEN better offers.

Some people say any check is better than no check but take a look at your situation and if you are to stay at home a little longer, then do so. A check and miserable work environment =

- No check and "Me Time" at home =

. What picture looks better?

What is the schedule? You could also look at the option of asking them if you can give it a trial run and see. You could always just try it out (30 days) and see if it works for you. Then you wouldn't ever have to say "What If" because you would know that you tried it and didn't like it or did like it.

Talk to the people that you know that work there and get the low down about the job as well.

That's my 2 cents which is really not worth even that.

I'm sure their may be others who will disagree, but I see nothing wrong with holding out for a lil bit and continuing to look for a job. personally I wouldn't put myself in that predicament for the same amount of money you're getting now..My husband and I were laid off when the magnificent "Home Depot" shut it's doors here.I was a Front end operations supervisor/shift management for years.Had worked with them from before they opened their doors after Katrina.I stocked the shelves before we had electricity, and I locked the doors on our final day.DH had worked there just a year less, and was also management. No one was offered jobs at other locations. The job market here is very slim to start with. Then we end up with all these recession woes ending up with many more employers cutting hours, causing the unemployment numbers to soar, then we get hit with the whole Deepwater horizon crap..There are so many people looking for jobs now, that they can pay minimum wage for maximum labor nowadays. You know what I was told by one employer? That they don't have to pay a decent wage.Their are plenty of people looking for a job,and very few jobs. The few jobs I have been able to come across within decent driving range(as I cannot drive very far due to my vision and headaches..which are surprisingly clinically unrelated) and feasible pay, have been non permanent. The ports hire part time on a 90 -120 day period for a lot of things. If you take one of these part time jobs you are not only losing ur unemployment benefits just to make the same amount of pay,but when the job is done...so are you, with no more pay.
Whereas I know we are luckier than alot of people in our situation.Wwe own our home.Built it from the ground up a little at a time after Kday.Buying and building as we went.We were blessed to have had volunteers from churches coming to our church helpiing various families rebiuld. So our labor was free aside from some meals etc... Our vehicles are paid for. They are not brand new vehicles, but less than 6yrs old. I usually pay our taxes and insurances up for the year when our income taxes come in.So the only bill i reall HAVE to worry about is electricity. The phones,cable,internet,etc...are just luxuries.DH is a commercial fisherman, went full time after the store closed, then again after BP moved out.I do at home type stuff mostly, business cards, flyers, advertising designs for friends, build cages, and some photography.I personally prefer working with nature, wildlife and animals. But I have done a bit with people. I don't claim to be a "photographer"..lol...but I get alot of reviews and do make a lil bit from it. I also do vetwork on call, and we both work with a good friend of ours when he needs someone up at the shop or running one of the boats.I still have applications out and continually looking also.
Hope you decide whats best for you.Good luck either way....
