I'm having such a time with waste of feed. I don't care if I give them crumbles or pellets they make a HUGE mess. I'm going to start feeding them everyday and maybe cut out some of the playing in it. I have them seperated 9, 11, & 24. So if I give the pens with 9 & 11 about 4 pounds of feed per day and the one with the 24 about 8 or 9 pounds a day I should be good right??

I've also started giving the some Calf Manna and I'm going to start giving them 20% chick grower to up their protein. After reading Jeff's post I know that mine should be laying more and it's probably just cause I feed them layer feed. They will get their calcium with oyster shells!! I'll try this for awhile and see if it makes a difference. I do know out of 22 layers I only get an average of 8-10 a day one a good day! I know that seperating them caused quite a stir in the chicken yard yesterday so I will give things time to settle before I start gauging if this is going to work!!

Hope you all have a great weekend!!

You can get one of those 40 gallon trash can lids and set your feeder in it and that will help on the thrown out feed

Wonder what I can do since I have hanging feeders?? Any ideas??

Missi just set them underneath them. They will catch alot of the dropped feed and they should feed off of that instead of raking out more.

Gracie we can do that

LaMike your fishing trip sounded like it was an OUTSTANDING success! Love me some fresh shrimp!

I like that idea with the trash can lids & think I'll do the same. I have hanging feeders but I know some feed gets kicked out.

I'm fixing to put flight netting across the wire on the upper part of my coop, as I noticed that the little chickadees are coming in through the wire & stealing feed -- yesterday there must have been 20 or 30 of those little buggers in there!!

Today I'm separating out my four roosters (2 Ameracaunas - 1 wheaton & 1 blue wheaton, and 2 Welsummers) & putting them into the "batchelor pad". They are starting to get fiesty & the girls need a break from their foolishness. Two of them will be going to freezer camp in a few weeks.

I had a good interview yesterday & they are supposed to make a decision by Friday, so now just to hurry up and wait, lol. I sure hope I get that job!

Well time to get into town, of all things I forgot to get dry cat food - my cats would never forgive me for that! and while I'm in town I'm going to get my flu shot & get that out of the way for this year. Have a good Tuesday everybody!
