"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Hi all! My name is John. I'm 15 and in Woodworth, Louisiana. I am TerriLaChicks' cousin.

I've been on BYC for a while but have been waiting to get some more chickens before I joined in. We have 22 big, brown, and beautiful Buff Orpington eggs set to hatch Thursday the 28. Got them for my birthday. My dad knew that was a breed I wanted. Tomorrow begins lockdown.

They are in our Genesis Hovabator which we have used to hatch chickens, ducks, and quail out of before. My profile pick is my favorite out of the little EE bantams we used to have.

Very excited to not just read and look but finally join in! Looking forward to meeting you all!

Welcome to BYC! We're nearly neighbors. :) I live in Brusly, but work in Baton Rouge.

Are you looking for Silkie eggs, chicks or juveniles? Someone here should be able to help.

Welcome to BackYardChickens and the Louisiana thread! We are always glad to add to the ranks of poultry and fowl lovers!

John,
Sending good vibes your direction! I have a couple eggs hatching Thursday too and fingers crossed a bunch on Friday. Make sure to post pictures after your hatch: We just love pictures of little fuzzy butt chicks!

sgibbe1,

Good luck with the Silkies. Off the top of my head, I think that member MikeLaMike has silkies and showgirls. Also, their was someone that was selling Silkies at the monthly sale/swap over here in Covington last weekend. I'll go back over the group's thread on Facebook and see if I can figure out who that was. Also, their are several "chicken swaps" happening around the area and most folks will post them on here. Maybe you'll have some luck at one of those.

If you are just looking for pet quality, then check out the Baton Rouge craigslist. There is someone posting on there all the time for chicks, but I think they are hatchery quality birds from the pictures I've seen.

I have a small BBS pen, and can hatch you some pretty babies (including showgirls) if you can wait a month. (a week to gather eggs, and 3 weeks to hatch them. Here are a few pics from this weekend.

Send me a PM or email if you are interested!

1 white rock

1 black giant

1 black sexlink. Sorry for the spelling

RIR. I cheated and bought them at the feed store. I have 4 that are due to hatch in 7 days.

I won an 11 lb. chicken feeder last week from Eberly Farms! Can't wait to get chicks in the spring! Now I have DE, a feeder and a chicken saddle that I won too!

Congrats!!! You are sooo lucky !!!!!!!
