"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Here are some pics of another chicken coop that was built when I was off from work. I still have to complete painting the inside. :/

Good point! I hadn't thought about that! How is your husband doing?
He went thru one round of chemo so far, he doesn't trust the chemo doctor, she tells us one thing and then tells us something else at the next visit. He is not eating very well right now so today he ate one chicken egg and 4 pickled quail eggs. He had the triple bypass and then one month later had part of his right lung removed. Still pretty weak, but hanging in there. Two dr. appts. tomorrow, ugh! Thanks for asking!

Hey y'all,
I'm over here in unincorporated Madisonville. We're brooding our first flock of 6 BO's (got them two weeks ago at o'keefe's) and are in the middle of coop construction. Do any of y'all have words of wisdom to impart that are specific to weather/predators in our area that I should know about before finishing the coop? I'm concerned about the summer heat, especially. Thanks for the advice - I'm sooo enjoying our backyard chicken adventure!!!
hi there, be sure to leave adequate ventilation at the top of your coop, chickens create a lot of ammonia! I'd suggest you use hardware cloth instead of chicken wire, snakes, opossum and raccoons can all reach into or get into your coop! Good luck with your new adventure. http://www.mypetchicken.com/backyard-chickens/chicken-care/guide-toc.aspx Here is a great site with a lot of good information about raising chicks and building coops!

Looks good. Didn't think of mounting it to posts. I have started collecting wood but I haven't even got the run up yet. Next weekend.

Question, how high can fat BOs jump? I was expecting to make my run 4 feet high and then clip their wings. I would make it higher if not for cost and the fact that my run is already half fenced in, and the fence is only 4 feet high. I have trees with low lying branches that I think they will be able to jump on to and then out.

Thanks. Not sure how high they can jump.

The last thing that I have to do is build a 3 tier step for them to jump onto the step and then walk or jump into the coop. Yea, I know it's overkill because they can fly in but I will feel better if I provided a step for them. If I can find a FREE concrete step, I'll get that. If not, we will build a wooden step for them.
