"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Good Morning!!

Well, one of my new babies is a roo. He will be beautiful and he is healthy. He is an Ameracauna and about 5 weeks old.

I can't have a roo because I live in the city. Does anyone want him? I will give him for free, I just want him to have a good home. This is a foto of him about a week or so ago, he is the dark one. In the foto his foot looks a little funny, but it's not, he is perfect in every way. I'm sad about having to re-home him, but I have no choice.

yes, the peas seem to be taking over! I saw this guy yesterday, he was taking a leisurely stroll next to a quite backroad. My dad said that he's been hearing one, but had never seen it. He was so glad when I finally got the evidence of him! We have no idea where he came from. No one has peas (that we know of) in the area - he lives in a small rural neighborhood outside of Doyline.

It's just amazing to me that something so beautiful is in the wild. It's like we're in the rain forrest with parrots and orchids growing wild.

Gracie, I hope so. I placed it near the nipples and it did suck a while on yesterday but it seems to be a slow learner. I pray that it will finally get it because if not, in the best interest of the lamb, I will have to give it to someone who can nurse it because I cannot physically nurse it. I would have to take off from work for a few days to care for this baby. I can't let it die because of that. I'm so nervous.

I sure hope he makes it!
Rained all night here too & again just a short while ago. Hard to believe hurricane season is just around the corner.

Don't say the "H" word. Ya'll know I get panic attacks during this time.

I'm enjoying the pea pics. I'll be picking up eggs from Terri this weekend. Whoot!!!

We came home yesterday to find that another d'Uccle had gotten in the first nest, stolen the two eggs from the broody hen and rolled them to the 2nd nest to sit on them! The original broody was still there sitting on nothing! Poor baby! We stole one back so now they both an egg under them. Geez, little egg stealer!

In the meantime, I have to figure out which breeds I care enough about to keep and which to sell out. It is so difficult, but I've got to let go of 4 or 5 groups of birds here... I hate to say it, but I'm leaning towards selling off the Lemon Cuckoo Orpingtons I worked my tail off to get. Then, of the Ameraucanas, I think ultimately that the lavenders and the one silver one will be leaving. That means I will keep the BBS and the Wheatens. So that's two groups...which other three??? So hard to decide. I love so many of them based on personality, but I don't think they will sell well. That means I have to decide whether I love them enough to let them stay just for me.

Maybe I'd feel better if I just sold off some extra boys floating around. Then at least as far as the chicken math goes my numbers would be down, right?

Congrats on getting some pea eggs. My girls started their 2nd cycle of laying . It's about time they did. I am hoping to collect whatever they lay and try to place them under a turkey or duck. I have pea eggs in the incubator now, so I will let the girls incubate them first and I will move them to the incubator. I read somewhere that the hatching rate was better when incubate the first 10 days (i think) under a hen. We'll see what happens.

Let me know which ones you decide to get rid of

Good morning ya'll. Bad weather last night and I slept through it.

Had another gosling hatch on yesterday and the turkey hen and muscovy hen that hatched it attacked me as I removed the baby. I have a few war wounds to prove it.

I noticed on yesterday that my new baby lamb is having trouble "finding" the mothers nipples to suck. I suddenly got a mental picture of me feeding this baby every 2 hours.

So, I immediately had to come up with a plan because if I have to feed it every 2 hours it will die because I am not able to do that because I have to work. I was able to catch the mom and bring the baby over to the mom and let her suck for a while. I have them penned up to ensure that the baby eats but I'm not confident that the baby can find the nipples. At first I thought the baby was blind but it's not. It walks around and appears to see fine. So, I guess today, I will make my way to TSC to buy milk and buy bottles to feed it. This is going to be difficult.

Wished you lived closer to me I would help feed.

If you think a goat herd would accept a sheep, then I volunteer if you can't get him eating properly.
