"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Lol. That is good. I think I solved mystery. I just came in to see my "rhodebar" eggs hatching out black with dots. Lolol. I had RB on those and BR written on the Barred rock eggs so I thought. I had a good laugh when I realized I got them mixed up.

Glad you got the mystery solved!

Must have been drinking some of my wine when those eggs were being marked huh? Lol

I have 5 coops that are halfway completed. Hopefully I can get them all done by Sunday. I don't have much time this week. My oldest son graduates Friday night and I have a teacher workday on Saturday. Between Saturday evening and Sunday I'm hoping to finish the coops to get room for the geese and the other 4 will be for the buff orps, bbs marans, basques, and cochins. Then I can move the silkies/showgirls and the olive eggers/arkansas blues into the smaller coops I'm already using. The birds in the small grow out pen can move into the larger one and the small grow out pen will be freed up for the pea babies that hatch in a few weeks. Whoot!! Lots of work to do. Why aren't there enough hours in the day?

No more eggs missing from the pens. The cameras haven't caught anything, either. Oddly enough the reds started laying again. Maybe they just took a two week vacation.

Good morning & hope everyone has a nice Memorial Day today. My one guinea hen hatched about 15 keets all by herself -- I knew she had a nest hidden but never could find it until yesterday - it's inside the base of an old dead pecan tree. I counted about a dozen little ones this morning so she may have lost a few last night - they are putting themselves in the coop at night but roaming every day just like they always have done. I accidentally got a little close to the keets & all three adults flared up at me like one of those blowfish so I very carefully & slowly moved back. I'd love to catch the little ones & pen them up but I don't think I want to risk getting beaten up that bad!

and thanks to all of our veterans.

OMG! lav ameracuan bantam chicks for sale I saw. I NEED them! Lol

Ok wait...I need those color eggs. From doing a lil searching I see the eggs are about 2/3 in size of the reg hens I have. I don't sell eggs but we consume quite a bit. If "chicks" for sale aren't sexed how many should I get to better my odds at 2-3 pullets?

Can I free range them with my other reg size pullets when its time for them to be out? My girls are friendly and a lil too accepting of other birds so violence I'm not to worried about. But if there are other reasons...

I was pleasantly surprised this morning when I went to open the coop for the day to find the guinea Mom had taken all of the babies inside with her - it was black dark when I locked up last night so I didn't see them. That's the first time she's done that since she hatched them on Saturday. I watched them exit & not one chicken lifted so much as feather - everybody was nice & orderly & they left the babies alone. I think there are 12 or 13 of them - they move too fast for me to tell!

Have a good day everybody! Sandy hope you get a good hatch out of those eggs.

I will have another 5-6 peacock eggs by this coming weekend if anybody is interested in hatching any, PM me. Off to work now so won't be back online until this evening.
