"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Folks, back in January I got some Mohawk line Rhode Island Red chicks from our own Chris Herzog. They have become unbelievable cockerels and pullets. The only problem is that I now have three VERY active cockerels, which is too many for my hens! If there is anyone on this forum who would like to get a couple of these top notch boys, I'd be willing to give them away. I don't need this many of them. I want people here, who know what they are getting, to have first shot at them. I don't have the facilities to keep this many of them separated from my hens. Anybody interested?

Been a very interesting week. Went back to work on Monday after having 3 little boys ( my grandsons 4, 5, & 6 ) for 7 whole days. They live in Illinois and I don't get to see them very much. Well took them swimming and I end up with water in my ear. I still can't hear out of my left ear. Then last Saturday went to a local feed store. Not my usual one that I use anyway. Had to ask. Got any chicks. Of course they did. 11 dominiques. Well they were in complete filth. I told them that if they would cut the price I would take them all. (What was I thinking). I must be loosing my mind. My hubby just gave me that look and shook his head. Chicks are fine well then Thursday. My brand new phone shorted out. I order another on. It's on back order. Using my inlaws phone. Not even gonna ask what else could go wrong. Any who. Hope y'all have a great weekend

FROM PrimroseMom1:

A little trick I learned a long time ago from an ENT doctor (my daughter would get a lot of ear infections from swimming) put a drop of rubbing alcohol on each ear and it draws out the water immediately. If you have an infection don't do it bec it would burn, but if you don't have any inflammation, it feels just like water. No burn at all. It works every time and we haven't had water or any ear infections in over 40 years. It will still work for you now.

My darling PrimRose has started pecking really hard everytime I or anyone else goes onto the chicken yard. She comes at us like a fighting roo wings out and head down. Yesterday when I
put my hand out to defend myself, she flew up and grabbed my forearm and hung on twisting to make a mean wound (thank goodness she doesn't have spurs!). Anyway I thumped her pretty good the next time and she stayed away but the next time she was worse than ever, so I kicked her, not enough to hurt her but enough to get her attention, kind of like the dog whisperer. Lol now I stand and face her ready to thump her. I love that chicken and won't eat her or give her away. So should I just keep up the thumping. And she might get better? What makes a good chicken go bad??? Lol. I noticed that from being the bottom of the pecking order for a long time she has moved herself up to the top. Lol

Hahahaha@ dog whisperer ;) just a distraction bump- works like a charm.
Awwwww sucks she's being a butt, I hope she snaps outta it. Could she have snuck a clutch of eggs away and is defending it?

I had a bottom of the pecking order girl that got fed up. She never attacked *me* but every day I go out and ruffle feathers, scratch backs and hand feed garden goodies...she used to wait her turn lol, now she'll attack the hen I'm giving attention too. Even if she just got some love and was off to go do chicken stuffs- she'll charge back and get what ever hen is getting my attention lol. Even Red, the head hen will scatter when Obama (i know I know lol my kid chose her name lol) charges! But it is only when I am involved. She stays in line with the other hens and doesn't fight the other girls over goodies they find foraging.
I am the boss. The rooster my hubby says, teasingly :D (gives them treats, cheers for eggs , wards off bad guys and scratches butts when the squat lol) Obama got this issue recently all of the sudden, now I put her 1st for treats, scratches instead of their pecking order and she's been much calmer (only one charge a day instead of 3 or 4!) But this has only been going on 2 weeks so improvement was quick.

So maybe you upset her? Hehe. Sounds weird but if she was the spoiled one and now is just part of the flock (over last few days maybe a week?) -maybe she's mad at you? Been busy recently? Lol maybe its a certain piece of clothing? New hair? I always wear mine up in a bun...let it loose one day, girls RAN from me (usually TOO me but I have a lot of long hair, they weren't having it)

I would give her a thorough exam to make sure its not a health issue...but I really have no idea :( just hoping you and her find peace :) especially if she's your fav!

HELP NEEDED......Phyllis Diller, my 11-week old bantam Polish hen is very lethargic and won't eat this morning. I just separated her from the rest of the flock so I don't know how her droppings look yet. Her crop is empty. No physical signs of injury or illness. Checked for lice, mites - she's clean. What should I do?
