"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

OK, another update for you all: I let them outside for the first time today(4 days old). At first they looked at the ground like what is this? Within a min they were all pecking and scratching. Now some are sunbathing, most are still foraging, and one is trying to fly around the pen.
Yay for outside playtime! So cute! We still haven't caught the elusive armadillo :(

AWWWWWWWWWWW. Makes me want to get more babies. :love

Hi, all! I haven't been online in a while and I know I've missed a ton! I just started reading old posts, but I wanted to say hello.

I know several of you have peafowl and I'm hoping someone can give me an idea when I'll be able to sex my lil one. I hatched this one from a purple over India blue mating.

Welcome back!!! Cute pea!!! As far as sexing you will begin to notice the size of the spurs and the back/wings. If the spurs start looking like "rooster" spurs, then you know you have a male. How old is the pea in the pic?

Hi, Mzstre!! We've missed you! Good to see you back!

Good morning! Congratulations on all the cute babies!
Thanks to Julie who hooked me up, D'artagnan, White Spot & Vishnu are now residents of St. Mary's Training School (a facility for mentally challenged children). I am very happy that they will be admired & loved for years to come as the stars of the Children's Barn there.

I now have all my flocks at what I consider to be a manageable level. No more hatching for a while!

You know, I posted a couple of weeks ago about not getting eggs from my 7-8 month girls. I even tried leaving them in the coop longer to make sure that no one was hiding them, didn't work then. I started giving the girls FF three days ago and they were watching the broilers (5 days old now) during their outside time yesterday. Today I go out there and find eggs under the roost, I leave to get the supplies to clean the coop and when I come out I have two more girls trying to nest under the roost and my rooster cheering them on! I wounder if maybe the babies kind of pushed their drive to lay? First eggs, I'm happy!!! The down side is that today was the first day for their preventive de-worming treatment. I'll eat the eggs from today as they were before I gave everyone Valbazen, but bumbed on the withdrawl time now that they are finally laying.

I have decided that I have a really great rooster. For the ones that already laid and the young roosters, he chased them into the woods for safety. For the ones needing to lay, he chased them into the coop, he even got two of them into the nesting boxes. He will let them out to forage close to the coop but then gets them back in the coop if they get too close to the woods. He will only let them go to the woods once they have laid. Also, when one is laid he comes to the door and crows. I could watch this all day, its soo cute!

Anyone have or know of someone with some Heritage Barred Rocks? Preferably Good Shepard Lines, but any of similar quality, I think they are beautiful birds and would like to try a few out

I do but I wont be hatching till later on in the fall Nov/Dec. hopefully as they are in molt now and i don't like trying to rear up chicks in 100 degree summertime anyhow.

Holler back at me for a reminder later on I have a few other La-yers lined up already for later on too.

Jeff

Ok...has anyone heard of using cayenne pepper in their chicken's feed as a worming preventative? I read something on BYC and wanted your thoughts and/or experiences with it. Thanks, Laurie
