Also, for anyone in the New Orleans area....our club is holding a swap tomorrow from 9-1 at the St. Tammany Parish Fairgrounds in Covington (off 190 and Magee Streets). It is free to the public, and vendors pay only $5.00 to set up. We usually get every sort of poultry and fowl as well as rabbits, goats, mini-pigs, donkeys, and even mini-horses every now and again: All small livestock is welcome and set-up is from 8  -8:55 AM.

We are under a covered livestock arena that stays fairly cool even in the heat of the day, plus no worries about rain or sunburns! We have bathrooms on site as well as a mobile BBQ truck that serves up hamburgers and hot dogs.

We will have a raffle for some nice prizes: Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00 and you can enter to win only the items you want.

Also our club, the Gulf Coast Poultry Fanciers Association, will have our youth coordinator there with some of the birds members have graciously donated. We have started a program where any child living in our membership area who participates in 4-H or FFA and completes the Louisiana Ag Centers Quality Assurance and Ethics program online for poultry is eligible to apply for free show quality birds: We do ask that they become a junior member of the club, which is a very small cost. The member who donates the birds, will make themselves available to the youth via email and phone for guidance and mentoring should the child or parent like to do that.

Here is a link to the program.

So, if any of you know a child in 4-H or FFA that is in need of birds but unable to find or afford them, please let me know and I will connect them with our Youth Coordinator Chip.

Hope to see some of you folks there!

I am looking for some serama hatching eggs. I live on the northshore of the lake. Does anyone know of any breeders in the area?
This is on the north shore If you go you'll meet a lot of breeders from this area. Welcome to the La-yers on BYC. I've been once or twice sometimes breeders have eggs there. There are people on this thread that sell hatching eggs. Some will mail them sometimes. I don't know if they have the breed your looking for but if they don't they might know who does.

Good morning. This morning I fenced off the area where I grow the grasses for the chickens and bunnies and have let the bunnies play under supervision. They are running and kicking and twirling and having a grand time. Great bunny tv this morning.

The grass area. If you look hard you can see Lela the white bunny coming out of the tunnel they made on the grass.

The girls have been protesting that they can't go in right now. Lol. They always want what they don't have.

Dulac, La here.... South of Houma, fairly new to raising chickens, started with 6 baby hens and 2 roosters, now we have 3 Road Island red hens, 3 Golden Sex links, 4 Easter eggers, 2 Barred Rocks, 2 Ideal 236 (sounds like a science experiment, but ok), 3 RIR roosters and 1 Dutch Bantam Rooster, 3 Pekin Ducks 1m/2f, 2 Swedish Blue Ducks, 2 Rouen Drakes. 1 RIR started laying on Sept 10, almost an egg a day so far. 1 Pekin laying of and on. Only wanted a small coop... But it keeps growing! The kids love it though.

I am very familiar with the tiger mosquito. I posted a pic of one that I killed when it landed on me a couple years ago. I HATE those things!!!!!

Worse Mosquitos from China?? Has anything good come over here from China?? Really. Poison Sheetrock, poison pet food, poison infant formula, killer Mosquitos, poison toys...think maybe we should quit importing from China?? Sorry, don't mean to be controversial. Just really wonder.
