"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - State Fire Marshal Butch Browning and Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain say half of Louisiana's parishes are too dry to allow private burning.

They have ordered a burn ban in 32 North and Central Louisiana parishes, starting at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

The order made public late Tuesday covers most of North and Central Louisiana.

The parishes are: Acadia, Allen, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Calcasieu, Caldwell, Catahoula, Claiborne, DeSoto, Evangeline, Franklin, Grant, Jackson, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, LaSalle, Lincoln, Morehouse, Natchitoches, Ouachita, Rapides, Red River, Richland, Sabine, Union, Vernon, Webster, West Carroll and Winn.

Until the order is rescinded, permission from the local fire department or local government is needed for any private burning.

People who violate the order could face civil and criminal penalties.

I'm glad that St. Landry parish is not on the list. WHEW!

Morning, y'all. Had enough coffee yet?

Yeah, it's pretty dry here. If we don't get rain soon, I think we will have a canyon in my back yard! Hey, maybe I can charge admission for it. Hmmm.

Apparently the ban covers Rapides and Grant. Possibly Avoyelles too. So...until further notice...No smore's for me

I am very careful with fires, because of being a first responder in the refinery and experiences putting out bad fires, but what upsets me is the guy who owns the property adjacent to ours who will set several trash fires and then go home, leaving them to burn overnight, usually after having large tree limbs and such. He lives a few miles away and I am up on "fire Watch" all night ! The guy is a really nice man, or I would just put them out the minute he leaves, but he is getting along in years and getting senile !

Oh my gosh!!! I am not alone! My kids get soooo embarrassed!
We all do it, but most of us keep it a secret, so our kids don't get too embarrassed by us. I remember going with my aunt to the grocery for my grandmother, to buy sugar on sale, 4 or 5 kids in line at 5 or 5 registers was pretty obvious ! LOL

What kills me is that the deals are so great you know they are loosing money anyway. Why do they have to throw out the extras that don't sell and not donate it? Until they figure it out I will be racking up anytime I see a Super 1 and pass it on. A lot of people don't even notice those deals because they didn't plan on something not on their list. I go in a store with a sales list only and will compare the cost against what I know it is at other stores to see if it is worth it. Last Christmas I found 30 tubes of Colgate toothpaste in the walmart clearance isle (no price tag on them) and someone placed a whole bunch of $0.50 off coupons on top of them. Well the only price scanner we have is in the coffee isle on the other side of the store, I fought the crowd and found out they were only $0.50 before the coupon. Toothpaste is toothpaste and I don't don't care if they have decorations on the box, it still cleans your mouth. I have since found out by giving them away how many people don't have toothpaste as a mandatory on their list and don't buy it because of the costs. People were happy to get it and I was left a little confused. If I ever hit that again the whole town will have clean mouths.
We never used toothpaste when I was a kid, because we could not afford it, we used either baking powder or salt. If we weren't given free toothbrushes in school, we wouldn't have had them, either, but we had our fingers to use! No matter how poor you are, there is always going to be poorer.

WAIT...WAIT...Don't get upset yet. I too was ignorant about the pox vaccine. I now have some on order. Before you think the worst, now don't laugh, try the vanilla scented car refresher tags. I got them and they work wonders here! Your girl may indeed be sick, however, I think mine ended up being bug bites! I posted pictures of my girls "spots". The vanilla tags have helped here. I can only tell you about my own experience, as I have way too much to learn!! Everyone here though, was super helpful and offered to help me through with their knowledge if it turned out to be fowl pox.

I am very sorry you have had the loss in your flock, I know how attached we've gotten in just 5 months.
Good luck.
I was wondering if it could be spread by ant bites, too ? We don't have a problem with many mosquitos, because of the ducks and it has been very dry lately, but this year and last, about this time, we had really bad ant problems and mu young turkeys got a few of those dry pox spots, nothing like what you show in the graphic pictures, but they were definitely dry pox ! I am really embarrassed to admit that I actually bought the vaccine and never got around to using it, because they say the turkeys have to be 3 weeks old and I keep getting more and was trying to wait to do them all. I have never seen this in any other fowl, except the turkeys, even though I had well over 100 chickens last year free ranging with all the flocks and they are all closed up in the poultry barn every night! I won't let it catch me off- guard next year !

Thinking about it. lol. I can't find someone that has the common sense to help me close the glass much less to help me replace the whole hinge. How hard is it to understand you push the top corner of the glass down to line up before you close the glass? I am really short and can't reach the top corner and the middle at the same time for a proper close. Alignment is everything in these things or it will get stuck in place. I have to unstick my back hatch right now because someone went in there and when they slammed it shut they did so with only one corner. Do you know how many railroad tracks it took to unstick it last time they did that to me? This is like trying to find the right size cotter pin, none in sight when you need it but a dime a dozen when you don't. Hmmm... I may need to take a trip to Leesville to see if they have any bolts at lowe's skinny and long enough or just take the struts off the glass for an easier close.

You need to fix it better for sure. That glass is sky high (high as a cat's rump) if it gets broken then there you'll be, all exposed LOL

I know we are and for good reason Its drier'n a popcorn fart here I think if a lightening bug had a wing failure or ran outta steam when it crashed here this place would go off like the fourth of July. I even slowed down my walking paces around here so as not to start any wildfires due to friction from my foot steps LOL its that bad especially considering the nice late springs moisture to now is a drastic turn around for sure.

Those are beautiful horses!! Mine are racing quarter horses. It's my favorite time of year, when they start to foal. Well except for the getting up and tramping out to the barn every hour or two in the middle of the night. Nothing like flannel pj's, bathrobe, rubber boots, jacket and big old flashlight! But the best part is getting back in bed with my hubbie and putting my ice cold feet on him!!! Share the love!!!

I only have three foaling this year. The other three didn't get the memo about getting bred and decided they wanted the year off. My kids are bummed about that, as we had six last year.

My late uncle was a Quarterhorse racehorse trainer & my Dad helped him on the side - when I was 10 to about 14, I kept my first mare at his stable & used to help start the young ones. Never met a breed I didn't like, lol!

So, here's a question for y'all.

Do y'all put your eggs in the fridge or leave them at room temp?
Do you wash them with warm water, or to you leave them be or do you just brush them off?

I'm curious to get y'all input.

I wash mine with cool water if they are yucky. Then refrigerate. I do sometimes leave some on the counter for a couple days. They get used fast anyway.

We are, too & we have a huge pile that needs burning but will just have to wait! We are insanely careful being as how we live in a cedar house! It's so awful right now being surrounded by acres of drying dusty soybeans too.

For those of you that remember, I had 2 lambs (male and female) that the mother rejected and I had to bottle feed them. Well, they were very spoiled. With having so many males this year, I knew that I couldn't keep any and one of the bottle fed babies is a male. I was having emotional issues knowing that I would have to give him away. The reason that I have to give him away is because I have to find another male to bring in for breeding purposes. You can't continue to use the same male year after year after year without having birthing issues. And with this bottle fed lamb, I have learned that my bottle fed babies grew slower than the lambs that the mom fed. Of course the bottle feds didn't get all of the healthy vitamins and nutrients from the mom like the others. The others are younger than my spoiled baby but are bigger compared to him. So, the time is winding down because in a few months, it's processing time. But I was still dealing with what to do with my boy. I didn't want to give him to a person who was going to slaughter him. Well, as karma would have it, a nice lady contacted me and was looking for sheep. I asked her to call me so that we could talk about sheep and what I had. After many questions, I found out that she and her family have a mobile petting zoo. From talking to her it appears that she loves animals and cares for them the same as I do. (Still researching this petting zoo to make sure that it is legit, with no complaints and animals are treated and cared for well). I told her that I would have the perfect lamb for her. I explained that he was bottle fed, spoiled and is not afraid of people. I have taken this lamb with me to vacation bible school for show and tell, the feed store and he has rode with me many times in the truck. So, I sent her pics of my baby and she wants to buy him for her petting zoo. So, if she checks out, I will be selling my baby to a petting zoo. I guess I'm ok with that. I may change my mind before then. Not sure. I just don't want to give him to someone that will slaughter him. I couldn't deal with that.

This is my spoiled baby.

I would think you could try and find a sheep raiser who, like you, would need to bring more diversity to their herd's genetics to trade him with, if the petting zoo thing didn't work out?
I have often thought about whether we are the most active thread on BYC. I am on several other threads, and a couple are consistent to do a few post a day, but none of them are anywhere near this one. Louisiana people are tight, IMHO.

Yeah, we are and very vocal, but the thread is usually right at the top of the thread and easy to find on the site!

In all honesty, I don't think my baby would even be interested in breeding. I really think that he will always be a baby and have "baby-like" tendencies. Kinda like a mama's boy who can't do anything on his own. I may be wrong but that's what I'm thinking about my baby. I know it sounds crazy but I that's what I'm thinking.
