Fuses are like old light bulbs, they let electric in to make light but when they get a surge of extra electric or over time the thing in the middle snaps not allowing the electric past to the other side anymore. However if the blow back is too big and too fast the bulb could burst (rare but does happen) allowing some into the wires behind. In a car it is not so rare. Like I said, if she is real lucky. Most of the time crossing them will blow the computer, fuses, and sometimes the alternator and wiring harness. If it got to the wiring harness they might as well buy a brand new 2013 something for her because it would be cheaper than repairing. At least they maned up to pay for their mistake. They sent the car to be repaired (they are paying) and for a rental car (they are also paying for that). I'm not sure if the computer was fried, but I do know NOTHING worked after they did that.

If the computer is blown make sure the shop follows the wiring harness and checks it all the way down. A weak or blown wire can start a fire in the worst of places. Also, have them check the alternator. A strong blow back can burn the copper in it, it takes less than 5 min to pull it off and check on a machine or when they connect the new computer they can check if it is working then. At that point I wouldn't let auto zone replace my wiper blades, they might figure out a way to bust my windshield.Yikes! I talk to my DH and he knows the computer was blown, but we don't know about anything else you mentioned. Its a bad day when you go to get a new battery and they ruin your vehicle. I bet the employee that did that is not having a good time either.
MORAL OF THE STORY: DON'T LET AUTOZONE REPLACE YOUR BATTERY!

If she is lucky they just fried a few fuses both under the hood and in the dash. If not, they fried her computer and that costs more than a new motor. Fuses under the hood can cost up $60 each and are there to protect from things like that amongst other things. Have them (or any auto parts store) connect the computer under the dash and read what comes up yourself. If it says anything about the car's computer make auto zone pay for a new car! If not make them pay for any repairs necessary.
Now about battery hookup: How the heck can they mess that up?????This is simple:![]()
+ on battery = Positive
- on battery = Negative
Red wire on both car and jumper cables = Hot
Black wire on both car and jumper cables= Cold
Still with me? Red/+ and Black/-
A anyone even a 4 year old can do it the first time shown, how do they have a job at a parts store not knowing something that simple???
Did they show up for work or did they call in sick for 4 years?Apparantly the person that did that had been working there for 4 years!!!
