This is dad. Silkie barnyard mix in molt. His tail feathers (blueish black) usually go up and fan down to the ground. Mom of the grey ones is a Blue Sumatra. Mom of the yellow ones is a TSC "RIR" that was completely white with orange eyes when I got her, and is now gold with white feather tips and red eyes.
I would love to see a picture of your Sumatra if you have one.

We have 2 lab mixed dogs that went through parvo, shortly after they were born, to a rescue dog, we took in. Out of 5, only these 2 pups survived. I had never heard of it before, but all the dogs in the shelters were put down, when it hit the area around us. The male is my avatar, Bear, and they are our puppy people children. They guard both the poultry and the wascally wabbits. They really love the rabbits and a couple of days ago, a few days old bunny, managed to get out of the nest box and made it as far as the entrance to the barn. Bear gentled picked it up and brought it to Hubby in his mouth and kept motioning to us to follow him back to the barn, where he showed us the other 2. I cannot go outside, without his sister, Gracie, right by my side until all my chores are done. She guards the birds and me, too, wherever I go. They are very smart and let me know when someone is approaching the house, because I am going deaf. They like everyone, except the electric meter reader. I don't know why, but they get very upset when he comes around. The UPS guy brings them a treat any time we have a delivery and the postal delivery people know them by name and have to stop and pet them every day. They listen very well and are better behaved than some people. They have killed both harks and owls and defend the birds against all predators. They know bad predator birds from good birds, but get a little confused with some of the larger egrets? They sleep on a single bed mattress, on the floor, under our bedroom window, with their own sheets and pillows and have free run of the house and property, with their very large doggie door. They have their own sofa and watch TV just like a kid would. I never knew how attached I could get to an animal, until these guys were born. They will be 3 years old next month.

Well, Kuntrygirl, I don't know about banana wine, or 3 fire-pits or why anyone would want bats near their house, but you are certainly are one of a kind! I wish you luck, raising 100 meaties during the winter and am happy you got all 13 pillows, but that's a lot of pillows for a sofa, so I am not going to even ask! I can see you cannot resist a sale, so I hope they keep matches off the sale isles ! LOL

Yes, it is bad timing. Yes, they will blame him even though this one is not his fault. They were checking their backup system and updating their normal one. Well, their backup didn't work. Better to learn now than find out during a crisis. People are upset because they don't properly budget their food spending and run out before the next FS come in. This causes them to rush to the store as soon as the card is loaded. Cooking on a budget may not taste as good as a T-bone or chips and icecream but it allows you to at least have something in your pantry. I am glad it happened and hope that at least some will rethink how they manage their pantry. Heck, a 20lb bag of rice for $5-10 (depending on where you buy it) in the back of the pantry and a few cans of beans would go a long way if they don't have the ability to go shopping right away. Also, have you noticed that the best sales go out right after most FS are run dry for the month. A little careful planning would go a long way for them.
I certainly agree. And a few more canned foods and the staples would be healthier for them, too. I always though charity was a hand up, not an excuse to stay down. I don't understand why some people consider it an entitlement to things, others actually "work" for! Too many people in the wagon and too few pulling it doesn't get the wagon very far! When times were hard, we did without and made do with what little we had. Now days, people classify chips and ice cream as essentials? You would think they would have more pride and class than that. I guess self sufficiency has gone the same direction as common sense! Yes, sometimes people need a little help to get through hard times, but it should not be a way of life !!!

I am getting interested in soap making. Not so much that I have to, but to make sure I can, if the need should arise and I like learning new things. Do any of you do this? Do you also make your own laundry detergent? I was surprised how popular this hobby was getting!

A couple of weeks ago we were talking about it. Everyone should be on by tomorrow to give you pointers and tips. You better watch out, we have too many hobbies going and everyone seems to get addicted. Side effects of this are Kuntrygirl...not enough hours in the day and the only sleep you get are from your "projects".

When you get to my age, you don't get much sleep anyway! LOL I have been conversing with someone in Arkansas who even makes their own version of Fabreze ! Pretty interesting though. All the different recipes and fragrances ! Sounds like everyone cooks and shares recipes already, so not much different, I would think?

I learned so, so, so much good info from the more experienced soapers on www.soapmakingforum.com And some great videos that do take the proper precautions are done by soaping101 on YouTube.
Yes, both Sodium Hydroxide and Potassium Hydroxide are very strong caustics! I have a background in hazardous waste handling and chemical spill handling and treatment, so I am very careful around chemicals. I also have experience in fire fighting, so I worry about KuntryGirl and her matches, sometimes! LOL
