"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

The eggs are suppose to ship Saturday and they are only coming from a few hours away in TX as opposed to the last few from California. I am spending more this time so I really hope and expect to hatch some this go around. I'm not even sure the last 5 were fertile. I could see one was not for sure.

Good luck!! Keep us posted.

I hope these hatch. The chicks I was looking at are greenfire lines. I didn't have time to order before I left. I might look for a different line if yours hatch. that way we could have diversity. Pam

Good Luck.

How much room is needed per chick for broilers for a chicken tractor? What do you all suggest?
Maybe you can find something on the meat birds thread?

I’ve been reading through the Bresse thread; pretty interesting reading. I know it’s cheaper to buy meat birds from the hatcheries & grow them out & process quick-quick, but I like the idea of a self-sustaining breed that eventually you could actually hatch your own out & not have to rely on the hatchery stock, although it would cost more in terms of longer to grow them out.

This is going to be an interesting project.

I'll go over there and look and see what I come up with. Having a self sustaining breed sounds good but for me, that would be a nightmare with the already gazillion birds that I have. I th ink the quick 8 - 10 week process would work better for me. Now I"m getting scared. Did I just order 100 broilers??????????????? :hu :hide :idunno What on earth have I done? :hit HELP ME PLEASE !!!! :hit

I doubt if they send any estras with 100. I will take a pic. I plan on counting them by putting 20 birds in the GAZILLION kiddie pools that I bought for $0.80 at the Dollar General Store. ( I knew those pools would come in handy.). I will have them in the garage for a week or so in the kiddie pools and them will transition them out to their chicken tractor. I"m trying to decide if I want to put sand bedding in the pools or something else. I'm not sure. I will surely take lost of pics. You all will get tired of me posting pics. I really want to document daily their feed consumption, water consumption, weights, etc. I know I won't be able to weigh all of them but I want to get a test group and band their legs and track weights and behaviors. I really want to see how much money I will spend on organic feed at the end of the process to see if it was worth getting so many. And if any die, then they will be gumbo or stew for that weekend.
