I didn't know you could make wine out of Satsumas ! Is there anything you can't make wine out? Except an old tennis shoe, that is ! LOLSEE???? This is why you need a dog or two. I have no problems with "critters" other than the neighbor's dog. Think about it!! A nice catahoula/ catahoula mix. Maybe Jeff could hook you up with something. His dogs were beautiful.
That wine looks great! Just the thing for a cold night.
It was SO FREEKING COLD this morning. I had to feed this morning because my husband had a slab he was pouring. I went outside with my fleece pullover thinking I'd be warm. Well, as soon as I loaded up feed on the4 wheeler and started for the pasture, I realized just how cold it was!! That wind was going right through the fleece! Now, for the picture...close your eyes...I might as well of been naked on the 4 wheeler for how cold it felt!! Ok, open eyes and do a "yucky" shiver, because that would NOT be a pretty picture!!! After feeding, I ran to the house, so my hands would be nice and cold...went inside and then had a "laying of hands" on my boys!!!! YESSS!!!!! Lots of yells and MOOOOMMMMMM!!!! It's those little things in life...Nothing like freezing cold hands on the face with me asking them if my hands were cold...![]()
I've been needing to clean out my pantry and Terri guilted me into it, because she did her pantry a few weeks ago.
My grandmother always said that the expiration dates on canned goods were basically crap. She said that with canned goods, you knew when they were "bad" because they swelled, or leaked. What do you guys think? I have several canned goods that are well past the expiration date, but the cans look fine. What do you think, keep or pitch?![]()
Thanks,
Laurie
I agree with your grandmother. Actually I don't look at the best used by dates on canned goods, if they were rusty or leaking, I would throw them out. If not, they should be good, but I do smell everything before I cook it. I have an emergency pantry that was converted from a WI closet and a kitchen pantry. As I need non-perishables, for the kitchen pantry, I take the oldest stock from the emergency pantry and put how many on my shopping list for when they are on sale again. I rarely but anything that is not on sale!I've been needing to clean out my pantry and Terri guilted me into it, because she did her pantry a few weeks ago.

I agree with your grandmother. I don't pay attention to dates. However, I do pay attention to the way the food looks and smells once I open the can. I just do a smell test if the date is expired. If it smells good, then it's good. Heck, I even buy expired goods at very cheap prices. I would keep them.
Thanks. It's mostly "hurricane" or "sick" food. Canned soups, vegetables, and tuna fish. When I open something expired, I'll just test it out on my husband first...![]()

Yes, I had beed going out at dawn in my light flannel nightgown, but this morning, I put on pants and a flannel shirt, before heading to the barns.
x2Now that would look neat in the yard!
Thank you so much! I will check it out, and try it. This is why I love BYC, people like you sharing info and being helpful!https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/644300/fermenting-feed-for-meat-birds
This is a link to a great thread. Some even use whole grains to ferment. But most just use the food they already feed their birds. Its a LONG thread, lol, but good.
x3 I want one!!!!
