I agree. I"m with you on that Jeff. I'm in no rush and I'm not rushing them.
Ditto here. Mine started laying again last week. I got a dozen eggs today, so they’re picking back up. I still have a couple of girls in moult.

I think I will try making soap. I have been reading posts and watching videos and it looks pretty easy. Let me look around and get a recipe going for unscented soap. I'll see if I can make some as well.

The cold process is easy. You can take a quart milk carton to use as a mold. After it sits overnight tear carton off. If you have dry skin try a recipe with Shea and/or coco butter.

My neighbor who I have given eggs to has told my husband that the eggs are "rubbery".  Is this simply how THEY are cooking them, or is there something I should be doing differently?  The first few times I cooked REAL eggs, I found them rubbery too, now I cook them gentler (lower heat) and I find that they cook faster than store ones.  Any thoughts?

You gave her eggs for free and she complains. Wow! My thoughts are rude neighbor. Any response besides thank you very much is rude and ungrateful.
She could have asked how do you cook yours?

That's what I was leaning to.  I just wanted to be sure.  My crew has been hit with a REALLY hard molt and I've even had some soft shelled eggs.  I have them on oyster shells, a high protein feed block supplement(Tractor Supply), freeze dried meal worms,  hulled sunflower seeds, as well as, the occasional scrambled egg and shell mixture.  I didn't know if there was a deficiency of some sort.  :idunno

If you give them yogurt or probiotics they might just need help digesting the calcium . You can buy probiotics to add to their water at tractor supply.Pam

I was out today in Minden. (Dropped my daughter off for a check up) and decided to go to the library and check out a book on chicken coop's (what else). The check out lady almost started crying when she saw the book. It happens that she had 12 beauties just ready to start laying and they were slaughtered one night. I ask her what they were in. Short answer: crappy old coop with a door that probably had a latch on it. Raccoons I said and she said a whole family of them just came right in. I told her to get it fixed and predator proofed and start over. And so she will. What a waste. Some people just assume that they're ok because it's never happened before. Maybe she'll do it right this time. Loved her chickens. Good luck to her.

It happens to everyone sooner or later. I lost 2 a few weeks ago. My coop is safe and has a lock. It's locked so good I got locked in with no phone one night. It was daylight they were out free range. I live next to a bayou on the other side is all woods. A young coon came across and got 2 injured one. Luckily me and my dogs heard that's how one was saved. You can do your best sometimes things still happen. Pam

Luvmychicken: no pic posted. There is a thread on what rabbits do you have? There is someone that posts there called Bunnylady. Maybe you can send her a PM. She is super knowledgable.

I had a big scare tonight. I went to a church function before dark so as soon as I got home at 8:00 I went out to close the coops. They always go into their coops on their own. As soon as I entered the yard I heard something scurry through the leaves. When I walked to the coops 3 were missing. Never happened before. I called them and none came. I found them and they were okay but they roosted high up away from the coops. I put them in the coops. I looked all around and didn't find anything but I am convinced that something scared them away. I also found a broken eaten egg. I just knew I would find dead bodies. Horrible.
