Thanks for the info. I haven't looked at the bottom of his feet but I'll check tomorrow. I was wondering about his beard, thinking maybe because he's still young it hasn't come in yet. Is it possible because of his age he wouldn't have it all quite yet?

He's old enough to see the beard and muffs. And the comb is a bit large so it doesn't seem he is an amercauna, but your bird is so beautiful, an EE, you should be proud of him. And, he will only get more beautiful as he fills out.

I need help.
I need some Mill suggestions. I want grain in bulk next fall. Hubby wants a feed in bulk til then also tho due to limitations we have on storing one whole ton of food at a time. We found one a bit far away and it broke down to about $12.50/50lbs 18%. But had to buy a Ton, literally 2000 lbs. ( I'm a newb humor me and laugh while I explain to the experts :gig )

So anyone want in? Lol No really where do I Go?! I've tried feed stores/Tractor supply/called on this One mill for the above minimum lbs and cost...are there more places? Google is only helpful for the feed stores (more popular maybe? Lol)

I get my feed from "Big Sky". They also have grains for milling. The contact Pearson is

We order every other month. We usually get 2 trucks loads to my understanding, delivered between Phoenix and Tucson.
Scott wanted the best feed, organized this service, and we by as a group. Next month I will be buying wheat and other grains along with my feed. Call him and he may be able to help you out to do the same thing. You probably already have your sources for organic soy free feed. Soy is toxic to chickens and really bad source of protean.

They have all types of feed for more then chickens. When I last picked up one man was loading up a good size trailer with several pallets off feed/product.

This is the scratch I like. Very little corn. I have fat chickens, I lost 2 to injunctive heart failure, do to being fat. They stopped laying. I sold (some) the fat chickens that stopped laying for processing for $20.00 before they died on me, and put the 2 that were laying but eggs said I am to fat. The eggs had ripples, on a diet.

I like the 17% Starter - Layer feed. You can see and smell the grains as they should be.

I feed my girls fermented feed. This sample is still bubbling. It smells different then the Kelly, or other soy based organic feed. The oder of the feed store stuff is sour and smells really bad.

I scored on this mill at a Church thrift store for $50.00. I love it.

The donkey is adorable. Please don't laugh, but I love Mules, prefer to have a riding Mule over a horse. I know it sounds crazy. My late husband used donkeys on the ranch he managed in Montana. HIs one cousin didn't like to kill them, and they kept the Prairie dog and rodent population down. They did a great job.

Thank you I'm going to see if they can ship organic grain. With my first flock I feed whole grains I bought an mixed myself. I didn't mill it. They loved it. Before I got the flock I was buying organic free range eggs. I wanted to stay organic after reading whats in live stock feeds. The flock I have now is 7 months and younger. The feed store started carrying organic food It's a small fortune. It's not as good quality as what I was mixing myself so I supplement with my own mix. I do Ferment their food. Thanks for the info hopefully I can save some money.

Love your mill thats a good score.

How are you doing with your mother?

You asked a while back about areas to look for a house. Based on what you said I would look at areas that aren't to far away from the lake or pearl river. Chances are where ever you find a house you will be near a bayou, a pond.or some water way. My Town is not small any more I live right outside city limits. I have 5 acers so even though I'm close to town My place seems like I'm in the country. The other unique thing about my area is 3 major interstates are close by. My husban used to work out of town alot so the interstates made it convinent. The smaller towns and country area around me would be Pearl River, sixward, lacombe ,. Just make sure your North to north east of the lake are safe. the South shore is New Orleans. You can ask others about thrie area. If you find somethig you like someone might be in that area and could let you know pros and cons. Have Happy Holidays!!! Pam

I found the product order sheet.

As you can see it would not be hard for a farming community to get a big enough order. The more the cheaper to a point. Because of the food grade grains it can easily be non-farming that may be interested ordering to. 2000# of wheat is a lot if you had to buy 1 item. You have St. Charles, Lafayette, as well as New Orleans. We pick it up at a nursery that has unused space. Big enough for a couple truck loads. As a thank you to the nursery we try to buy our nursery products there when we need something.

I do not like all the other feeds I have tried. They put way to much corn in it, and the scratch is 50% or more corn. Fat layers are non-productive. In cold area's corn is good only to help them stay warm in winter. The hotter it is the less corn they should have. I learned the hard way.

With the FEMA Flood Maps any home below I- 12 is in flood zone & home owner insurance is more than the house. Okay I may have blown that up a little. But if I was in the market for a home / land in any southern state insurance cost would be a major concern.

Great score on the $50 mill! Omg lucky lol we have an antique (last leg) lol but it works *ok*. As we grow in size we will need another.
I'll call them to check costs, thanks for the info!
