"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

She is sooooooooo beautiful !!!!!!!!!!!! I see that dragon eye too. She looks so sweet. How many chicks do you have all together? I love the Rhode Island Reds I want to get about 50 more this year. Some of the hens are getting older and I need to get some new layers.
I think she is pretty too. Looks like she has a nice full crop! I love when I get a chicken that has a nice personable temperament!

Kuntrygirl where do you get your layers from?

With reading up on reviews for different hatcheries lately I came across some really cringe worthy stories. And until recently was under the mistake impression that hatcheries (most of them anyway) had their own breeding stock and that was what they hatched eggs from. WRONG!!! I found that a bunch of the hatcheries are actually just the middle man and they just buy their eggs from the same breeders. So in some cases buying from different hatcheries would actually get chickens from the same source.

I would love to know if anyone has a favorite seller on ebay or a favorite that they have purchased eggs or chicks from. I am kind of hesitant to just buy eggs from a complete stranger on ebay. But nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I get mine from Ideal Poultry. I like them. I have never had a problem. I have never received any dead birds. They always send extras and have never lost any birds from them due to illness. I have also ordered from Cackle Hatchery in the past and have had no problems at all.

I will definitely be looking for that "FREE CHICK" special from the feed store that I got those free chicks from last year.

Free chick special?

Anyone else order from Cackle or Ideal? Ideal is so close that the chicks would have less travel time. Which of course is great. There are some of the reviews are just people who did not pay attention to the fine print and you just have to disregard those kinds of reviews.

That's why I started ordering from Ideal, so that the babies would not have so long to travel. The post office is great at calling me at 4:00 AM and saying, "Your chickens are here. Come on and get'em. I'm waitin' on ya."

And you know I"m a tough cookie when it comes to customer service or and things that I spend my hard earned dollar on. If somethin' ain't right, you know crazy ME is gonna jump all over that. :gig I will be the first person to open up my big mouth with a complaint. However, I have NO complaints about Ideal or Cackle. They have been very good to me every time I have ordered from them.

TGIF! Although it seems like the last 3 days have been Fridays. I am loving that the temps are going to be up. But I cannot even believe there are flakes showing next Friday on my WeatherBug app. I hope it changes enough before then that that is out of the forecast.
I refuse to acknowledge that the cold weather is coming back!! My head is in the sand...my ears are covered and I'm humming...

Free chick special?

Yes, last year there was a feed store somewhere near Baton Rouge that was giving away 10 baby chicks for every bag of feed that you purchased. I was already in Baton Rouge at my weekend class and my best friend text me and told me about the special. So, after class, I drove to that feed store and bought 5 bags of feed and left with 50 free chicks. I wanted to buy 10 bags of feed for 100 chicks but I didn't follow my first mind, which was the best thing that I could have done.

Someone on this thread knows the name of that feed store. I forgot the name of it.

I use a storage bin and bring out a few at a time. But I don't have a hundred lol
Good morning peeps. I have waited for this day ALL WEEK! I am so confused with what day of the week it is. I thought yesterday was Monday and today was Tuesday. With all of the days off from work due to the weather, it's hard getting back on schedule. Temps are supposed to be 74 degrees. I really want to say in bed all day Saturday but I have to get up and moving on tomorrow. I need to put the fat broilers out so that they can run around and free range. I will have to take every single broiler out one by one and bring outside. :barnie Staying in bed all day sounds so much better than that.

I may have to get the zero turn and load them all up in boxes on the back and drive them out to their day spa. :lau Last wekend I loaded them in the the wheelbarrow and made about 5 trips back and forth. It's not fun bending down to pick up all of those broilers. :/
