I'm noticing more and more people are moving to the country. I wish they would stay in town. Years ago, "city folk" talked about the "country folk". They talked about how far they had to travel to get to our house, They talked about nothing to do in the country. They talked about this and they talked about that. Now they are talking about moving to the country. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! STAY WHERE YOU ARE !!!!!!!

Totally agree with you on this one. My cousins never would come to Slidell using the excuses you state above. Now some have moved over here. They like the subdivisions.

LOL I remember when all of my young cousins who grew up "out here" left for college. Man, they hated it here! They were NEVER EVER coming back! They scattered to Nashville, to Dallas, to Monroe -- never coming back to this podunk, one horse town never mind "out in the boonies".

Every one of them moved back except one. Two of them are once again living next door - or IN - the homes they grew up in. Two more are planning to build out here when they can afford to.

There goes our quiet neighborhood. I told them, too. Eat them words!

Yes, I"M glad my neighbors stepped up as well. I think I"ll give them a processed broiler whenever I process mine as a Thank YOU for being good neighbors.

Boy when the field behind us came up for sale I was so worried a subdivision would get shoved up my rear and then people would move next to my farm and complain about my farm and buying it was not an option. I was so relieved to see a big red barn getting built in it. That means I'll have horses or cows next to me instead of jack*****.

I can relate to that. When I left to go to college, I always knew I would be going BACK to the country after graduating from college. I had a lot of friends that wanted to go to these big cities to live. Not me. I always knew where my heart was. Now some of those same friends have either moved back home or planning to move back. A guy that I dated in college wanted to live in the "BIG CITY" after we graduated. I hate to say it but I broke up with him for that reason. I knew that I wouldn't make it in the BIG CITY, so I called it off because of our differences. I knew that I would never change his mind and he would never change my mind as far as where we wanted to live. Best decision I ever made. Needless to say, he is still in the BIG CITY and I"m still a country girl. Oh, and another reason we couldn't make it because he said that I never asked him to do anything for me. I"m like, "HUH". He said I always did things myself and I never asked for any help. Uh, well, I can't help it if my daddy taught his baby girl the right way. I can't depend on a man to do EVERYTHING for me. That ain't happening. My daddy taught me to NEVER depend on a man for everything. Be independent and that's what I do.

Now if we can put a stop to some of these raggedy, broke down, dirty, dingy , delapidated trailers being pulled to the country and making our area look BAD !!!!!!!!!!

I figured out that my "extra" is a Dark Brahma.  The feathered legs helped me figure that out.  I will get some pics when they are  more rested and have full tummies.

I have a buff brahma hen. She is one of my favorites! Very sweet.

If you really knew me, "softy" would NOT be what comes to mind when you think of me. I just believe in trying to show my "nice" side when people are nice to me. What little is left of it. I will be the first to admit that when I was born, God DID NOT give me the nice genes and the patient genes. I"m just learning how to fit in those roles over the last few years. I use to be a devil on wheels. And that's putting it nicely.

Add to that the two abandoned rent houses up the road from us - we stopped them from being used for prostitution and crack houses, but we just can't get them condemned & torn down! We keep trying, though.
And the people who think our bayou (with the NO TRESPASSING signs on it - yes, THAT bayou) is a dump! Somebody abandoned a big screen TV this week.
