"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

@ BButter have you advertised on Craig's List looking for POL chickens? Might be worth a try. Never know.

Hey everyone. I'm in the Alexandria area. I just put down my last laying hen.
sad.png
Something has been picking them off one or two a day. After trying everything else, I finally locked them up (down to two hens and two roosters) and the "monster" still ripped a hole in the roof and took one hen out through a three inch tear. My roos are beat up and bloody, and my last hen was literally skinned alive.
SO....no more chickens in the pasture for a while. I'm moving them right next to the house and making some changes to the pen.

Does anyone know where I can get started pullets or even older hens still laying? Like I said, I'm in the central LA area, so I'd like to find someone nearby. I'll get chicks to start over with, but I need some girls to give us eggs until then. We are NOT eating store bought eggs (y'all know how it is!).

At this point I'll take just about any breed!

And btw, I'll gladly give you some rir roos!

Do you have a secure place for them now?

I have to go back and catch up, but we had a scary weekend!!
The story...

My husband had to run by the flooring store we use to pick up tile Saturday morning before football. When he parked, a weird guy was walking around and walked up to his truck, looked at it and it the bed and said, "This one won't work." then he moved to the next truck and looked at it and said, "Let me get my duffle bags". My husband, didn't think anything of it (

) and went into the store. The girls then told him about the "weird guy" who had come in and asked to use their phone and computer. Some idiot let him and he was there for about 15/20 min. using it. He then left. At 12noon when the flooring store was closing, the girl went into the parking lot and told the guy he had to leave because they had to close and lock the gate. At that point, the guy pulls out a gun and puts it to his head. He then starts walking toward a parked sheriff's car in the lot next door. The girl runs into the flooring store and locks the door. Long story short, the guy ends up walking a little further to a new gas station, where he starts making his "demands". Wants to talk to the Texas governor, etc. LOTS of "talk". He ends up pulling the trigger, but the gun doesn't go off, and the police shoot him with a bean bag gun and he is taken into custody. My poor flooring sales rep was really freaked out...if that guy had walked back toward her and the store instead of toward the sheriff's car, it could have been a different story.

I fussed at my husband that he needed to PAY ATTENTION to people in the parking lots. He could have too easily become a statistic if his truck was to this guys liking. He said he was used to crazy, he's in construction.

Oh my gosh, Cracked!!! God was watching out for your family. One second different decision by that guy could have changed everything. May God continue watching over your family everyday. Amen

Well, dodged a bullet on that. Thank God he's in "construction".

No one has seen crazy until they have seen the next level of crazy. I hope your husband thinks like that from here on out. When you think you have seen crazy, there is ALWAYS one person who is crazier. We should never get comfortable in thinking we know behaviors cause when we let our guard down, that is the day crazy over powers us and it's too late. :hugs

That is SO true!

Morning La-yers! love all the pics of the coops and plants! I started my tomato seeds Saturday. Spent an uneventful weekend - just the way I like it. Leaving work at 1 today to go to the dentist to fix a tooth that lost a chunk out of it. I haven't been able to chew on my left side in 2 weeks! I hope it's just a "patch" job and not a crown, but, whatever it takes.

Just got an update from my flooring rep. There are helicopters and police dogs looking for the unaccounted for girlfriend in the woods. Turns out this guys arms were freshly scratched up and welted. This looks like it could take an even uglier turn.
