"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

You need to be careful!
I still don't think my husband "gets it".  However, he sounded horrified this morning when I called him and told him they are looking for the girlfriend and that the guys arms, etc were really scratched up, like he'd been in a fight.  I hope they find her safe, but they are searching woods, which isn't a good sign.

You don't know what was going on.She could be the one who put him up to it.The fact she didn't wait for the police makes me think she wasn't innocent but part of the problem.

I was thinking the exact same thing.

Catching up:
I LOVE the babies!
I really really want some Lavenders... they have colors i dont have in my flock yet! They are quite beautiful!
Nice idea about the water catcher!
I have never read that! My EE's have indeed gone broody before.. I say if she is showing love, leave her happy butt in there! Won't hurt anything and WILL lndeed allow them to be accepted into the flock easily later! Never know, maybe she will attempt to hatch her own at another time?!

Your hubby ha a lucky streak to have not been more a part of such psychotic weirdness!!!

Took it from the movie "The Goonies" remember the character on their? I try to come up with unique interesting yet meaningful names

Like, I just received 2 Lavender Bantams (Roos) from Chicago and I named them Trip&Miles.

Good names!! Handsome roosters!!

It is getting scarier out there by the day. You have to watch your back everywhere you go. I try not to go anywhere after dark and if I am outside in the yard after dark, I always lock the house doors and take the keys with me. I would hate for someone to slide in my unlocked house while I"m out feeding and watering just to surprise men after I'm done with all of the chores.

This is another reason I have my GSD's. 1 I love this breed. 2 They can read a strangers intent better than me. 3 They [ crazys or burglers]will pick a house without dogs. I also plan on getting a permit for consealed weapon.

I really want a GSD but I'm not sure if I have the time to properly train it to be around the animals.

The one I had before these came from the pound. She was full blooded. She was so easy to train she was 3 to 5 years old when we got her. She ranks in my top three of the ones you have that are really special. Like she could read my mind. You should check shelters for an adult in good health. Maybe find one that was fostered. That way someone can tell you more about their temperment, and training.

I got Trixie cold from the pound(Didn't have any info). But I took her outside to see her temperment. She was true to breed and tried to ignore me. I asked if she knew any comands She didn't respond to me a stranger(thats true to breed). I lady at the pound said oh yes she does told her to sit and she did. So I knew I had a good one true to breed.

From then on she listened to everything I asked. Learned new things instantly.I can't belive I found her at the pound she had some training. Couldn't belive somone didn't come for her.

We got our first flock after we had her. I had to keep an eye on her for two weeks to keep her from stalking them. After that she left them alone except for runing them off the patio. She saw me doing it b/c I don't like poo on the patio. The other was if they approched Ron. That was her man and she would chase them off. Never once hurt them. But look out possums, racoons, etc.

If you ever get really serious let me know,I'll help if I can.

I have to go back and catch up, but we had a scary weekend!!
The story...

My husband had to run by the flooring store we use to pick up tile Saturday morning before football.  When he parked, a weird guy was walking around and walked up to his truck, looked at it and it the bed and said, "This one won't work." then he moved to the next truck and looked at it and said, "Let me get my duffle bags".  My husband, didn't think anything of it :)th ) and went into the store.  The girls then told him about the "weird guy" who had come in and asked to use their phone and computer.  Some idiot let him and he was there for about 15/20 min. using it.  He then left.  At 12noon when the flooring store was closing, the girl went into the parking lot and told the guy he had to leave because they had to close and lock the gate. At that point, the guy pulls out a gun and puts it to his head.  He then starts walking toward a parked sheriff's car in the lot next door. The girl runs into the flooring store and locks the door.  Long story short, the guy ends up walking a little further to a new gas station, where he starts making his "demands".  Wants to talk to the Texas governor, etc.  LOTS of "talk".  He ends up pulling the trigger, but the gun doesn't go off, and the police shoot him with a bean bag gun and he is taken into custody.  My poor flooring sales rep was really freaked out...if that guy had walked back toward her and the store instead of toward the sheriff's car, it could have been a different story.

I fussed at my husband that he needed to PAY ATTENTION to people in the parking lots.  He could have too easily become a statistic if his truck was to this guys liking.  He said he was used to crazy, he's in construction.

Wow, scary stuff.

Morning La-yers! love all the pics of the coops and plants! I started my tomato seeds Saturday. Spent an uneventful weekend - just the way I like it. Leaving work at 1 today to go to the dentist to fix a tooth that lost a chunk out of it. I haven't been able to chew on my left side in 2 weeks! I hope it's just a "patch" job and not a crown, but, whatever it takes.

Ouch! I hate having dental work. I hope it's painless for you!

Just got an update from my flooring rep. There are helicopters and police dogs looking for the unaccounted for girlfriend in the woods. Turns out this guys arms were freshly scratched up and welted. This looks like it could take an even uglier turn.

Oh no, even worse!

Lost some chicks this morning :( they're just gone :(
No way to escape, indoors. I think somethin came thru an attached shed. Sucks. There are a few left that were so scared. I feel horrible.
I searched for any signs, looked for entry points and cleaned, searched for a lid to brooder came back and found my EE hen snuck in and snuggled up with babies. i didn't think EEs went broody, maybe she's laying an egg and showing the biddies some love? She's making all sorts of weird noises and trying to cuddle. weird because she's Not like that :gig

I'm sorry about your chicks! Your hen looks very happy to care for her new brood. :)

All of you with chicks in a brooder go to DIY Thread "Let's see your inventions" thread. A guy bought some cheap feather dusters that he tied together at the handle and hung in his brooder. He said he has used it twice and his chickens seem happier then without it. They hid under the feathers and run in and out and stay warmer.
I saw that somewhere a couple of months ago!!! Such a cute idea! I wonder if the dollar store has them.

Check at Petrus Feed & Seed - the guy who works in the "chick section" - several times I've seen crates w/adult birds there waiting to be picked up. I don't have any extras in my flock right now, sorry - just very old "retired" hens and the pullets I chose to keep as replacers last fall. You're welcome to eggs to hatch if you want some. I have Welsummers, Cuckoo Marans, Easter-eggers - so it'll be mixed breeds & you could luck up & get some pures - don't have my flock separated right now. They are good layers though, even my "mutts".

My hubs JUST got a text back from them. They don't have any right now, but they're going to check with a customer. :fl I love those breeds, but I'm not set up to hatch eggs right now. I'm just going to order some chicks and continue to look for hens. Thank you, though!!
