Hang in there!!
I know we are all crazy busy juggling all our "balls".  Right now, I don't feel like I'm doing a very good job at it.  This night class is kicking my butt!!  I like the class, but by the time I have a little time to study, I fall asleep!!  :barnie

Can't wait till all your baby pictures start arriving!!!  Makes me smile.

Lol I had a friend bring his kid over, had all the chicks outside, my kids having a blast with babies chasing them...their kids laughing and smiling turns around for the cutest Kodak moment, only to be greeted by his mother slapping chick outta his hands, scooping him up and running into the house to wash him off before "he catches salmonella or some kid deadly disease!"
Seriously? This super duper multi degreed grown woman had a heart attack over a Kodak moment with a chick ?! Ignorance is thick. We argued about facts, she left after information other than outta my mouth was presented (we all know the internet is always right... :hmm . Lol

And not even a smidge of poo was involved- lol and I always have poo somewhere she got lucky

Wow!... hadn't heard a story that bad in a while...That is so very sad..the lack of understanding and common sense is an awful commentary on how far away from reality many in this country have come in regards to their food source.. I would like to see those "poopless" birds that lay her pristine eggs... I guess they come from the same place as the "crowless" rooster a lady wanted to buy from me...

Believe it or not there is a vet that decrows roosters. I haven't seen anything new lately but in 2008 he was charging $250 to decrow your own rooster or $350 if you buy one from him. I have talked to people that used his service and they love it. Personally, I like the sound of a crow.

I like the crow of a rooster as well. I don't understand all of this surgery to change an animal's natural behavior. Doesn't make sense to me but that's just my opinion. :idunno

Has anyone here raised pekin ducklings? I'm raising some for the first time, and I'm worried about weight. Can they get overweight at three weeks? Mine have a noticeable fat pouch, and when you pick them up they're squishy. This pictures are from Monday, and I feel they've only gotten fatter since then.

This isn't their pen, by the way. I was just letting them roam around, since they still sleep in the brooder at night.

I saw the CUTEST, MOST ADORABLE monkey this evening. This lady was giving away a cage and I went over to her house to get it and saw that she has a pet money. I didn't have my camera on me to take a pic of the monkey so that you all could see. This mini monkey was SOOOOOOOOOOO cute. Her name is Annie. She lives in a big cage inside and has heat lamps on her all day. She is 8 years old and makes the highest pitch sound you would ever want to hear. I am waiting on the lady to send me a pic of Annie but in the meantime, I found a pic of what type of monkey Annie is. She is a marmaoset monkey and looks something like the monkey in this picture. I didn't realize there were some monkeys that were that small.

And here is a pic of the cage she gave me along with something else. Not sure what it is but it looks like something that you can put baby clothes in for storage. :idunno The cage is a cage that her monkey was in. I will have to THOROUGHLY wash it multiple times before I can use it. And I really don't know what to use it for.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY ARE TOO CUTE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :love I have never raised Pekins but have raised hundreds and hundreds of muscovys. I never heard of an overweight duckling. They do drink tons of water and with that mixed with feed, their pouches could be a little squishy. As long as they are eating, drinking and having fun, you should be ok. Just keep us posted on their progress and if anything looks weird or something you're not sure of, please post questions. You can also post on the duck thread and perhaps other Pekin owners can reply to this concern. Better to be safe than sorry.
