I'm moving in!
Yes, had 2 so far with splayed legs... but 6 with curled toes. i cleaned the bator good with bleach... even let it soak for 3 hours! But my temps are still not holding. So luckily i have plenty of eggs being laid each day but I HATE wasting... and enduring their poor lil deaths. Breaks my heart!Have you thoroughly disinfected your bator? Really saturate it w/bleach - might be some weird bacteria lurking in there somewhere.
I've had crooked toes & chalked it up to humidity issues when I used to use a styrofoam bator (Hovnabator). Once I got my Brinsea, no more problems
OOOOHHHHH!!! 8X10 huh.... instead of spanking, could threaten jail then?? LOLYour to funny! It 8 by 10 a little small for a house . It will have two coops inside and a brooder. The rest for storing food etc. I 'll catch up with y'all this evening it's go to Metairie day. Pam

Good morning La-yers. Good thoughts appreciated for my Uncle - his son found him passed out in his yard yesterday. He is having a heart cath this morning. He is my Dad's last surviving brother.
On the up side, we put up another purple martin house Sat & it already has residents! and the hummingbirds are here.....my azaleas are starting to bloom -- I think Spring is finally on the way!
I am amazed at how peaceful my hens are with no roosters around. No fighting, no shrieking, no running away, no crowing at 2 a.m. in the morning.....egg laying has doubled but that may be due to the season. Either way, happy to see my hens happy and once again enjoying having them. I miss my peacocks but not the extra work. I finally feel like my stress level has dropped.
Have a good one!
Still air and two thermometers. BUT, I have to open it to turn them all. But i do it fast as i can... okay... i am writing down your suggestions and gonna try that!!! Fan first! Is your bator still air or forced air? if it's still air it might help to put a little fan in there - you can use a fan out of an old computer.
How many thermometers do you have in there? Be sure the one you have is accurate. When I hatched in a styrofoam bator, I got some "water wigglers" - those kid's toys - they were in the party section at Walmart - and inserted one of the thermometer probes into the wiggler. The theory is it simulates the true temperature on the inside of the egg. I did have improved hatches using this method.
Also I tried to never open the lid unless I absolutely had to. I punched a hole in the side & ran a piece of aquarium tubing down to the bottom & added water w/a syringe so I wouldn't have to open the lid.
That's about all I can think of right off. I had some chicks hatch w/crooked toes until I started doing these things & then had no more problems.

Try giving them a vitamin b or honey supplement in their water for the first 3 days and see if that helps. I don't know enough about incubators to know if there might be a problem there but the symptoms do look the same as a vitamin problem as well.
