That is so beautiful and beautifully made. I wish I could build like that. I got a table saw but it's still in the box bec been so busy.

Pam, thanks so much for your sweet sweet offer of plates and cups. A friend came from Texas with some, so we're good for a while.

Question: What is the purpose of being certified except to show your flock is free of Pullorum-Typhoid? Is this so you can sell commercially, or does it serve another purpose?
Forgive my lack of knowledge, but I am new to chickens and all things chicken related :)

Congratulations by the way!!!

Hey Primrose, I am new and know we don't know one another, but I read what about your need for hospice care and feel compelled to say a couple of things.

First, *hugs* for whatever the situation is and I'll put you and your family in my prayers!
Second, I became familiar with hospice when my grandmother passed many moons ago and when we moved here I volunteered with our local hospice for two years. It was a deeply emotional experience. We had the need for hospice services for the better part of 2012 when my dad was ill from bladder cancer. Needless to say my heart goes out to you and I love the relief and support they provide to the caretakers and family! God Bless

That was so sweet. Thank you!!

That was so sweet. Thank you!!

Thanks primrose. Wish I could take the credit but all I did was pick one I liked. Superman hubby gets all the credit for the build.
I'm glad you were able to switch hospice and see how much help they really are. Now you can relax and know your friend is in good hands. Pam

I cook up some grits for the girls. Add Cheyenne pepper to it until it looks rusty. Lat it cool. They devour it and u ou can still eat the eggs. No waiting time. I do it 2x s a year. Young and old

In October I use Valbazen to cover my bases as a preventive.

This is the schedule I use:
WORMING SCHEDULE FOR CHICKENS

WORM 4 TIMES A YEAR, EVERY 3 MONTHS.
ROTATE: WAZINE, IVOMEC, SAFEGUARD, VALBAZEN
DO NOT HAVE TO TOSS EGGS WHEN USING IVOMEC.
ALL OTHERS, TOSS EGGS FOR 2 WEEKS AFTER.

IVOMEC INJECTABLE (WHICH DOES NOT CONTAIN OIL & IS THEREFORE WATER SOLUBLE) 1% SOLUTION:

MIX 4 CC PER GALLON OF WATER (12 CC FOR A 3 GALLON WATERER) FOR 2 DAYS. MAKE A FRESH BATCH EA DAY.

IVERMECTRIN .5% USE 8 CC PER GALLON OF WATER.

TREAT AGAIN IN 2 WEEKS IF TREATING FOR LICE/MITES.

DRAW IT OUT, PUT IN WATERER & USE HOSE TO FILL UP & MIX WELL.

OTHERS FOLLOW DIRECTIONS ON LABEL.

SAFEGUARD 10% SUSPENSION LIQUID FOR GOATS: 3 CC PER GALLON OF WATER.

For new birds/babies:
My first worming I use wazine and then during the necessary re-dose (you must always repeat piperazine worming) use the stronger wormer. Then I use the stronger wormer twice annually for those birds thereafter
I worm chicks at four months with ivermectin and put them in rotation with the adults for twice yearly. If on “old ground” start with Wazine

The quest plus and zimectrin gold are pastes also for horses. Both contain praziquantel, used to kill tapeworms. The zimectrin gold also contains ivermectin. Dosage for both wormers is "BB" size for each chicken, both are inexpensive. Put on piece of bread & feed it to them individually. First time worming; I recommend wazine first, then use one of the other wormers 10-14 days later.

For peas, same dosage as chickens (3 cc per gallon of water) use safeguard then a
2 week break, than Ivomec.
Thank you all for sharing!

I am just curious if anyone has any links to info or studies about the natural ways that people do wormings. Like the pumpkin seeds and hot pepper. I have read before, many places that people use this. But I always like to see studies about it. Do ya'll that use it watch their poop for worms or what?.........to know its working?

I have to admit that this time around with this small # of Cornish X ............I may have a harder time with sending them to freezer camp. They are showing much more personality since they are growing up with regular kinds of chickens. They RUN to us to get their belly patted and talk to us

And the kicker ..............one of the Nuggets decided yesterday that one of the sassy White Plymouth Rocks was acting too big for her britches (she WAS being naughty!!). So the Nugget gave her a good scolding. That was too funny!

I previously thought that the Nuggets never would think of anything except food. I am beginning to be apprehensive as their time is going fast.

You can also speak to Linzi Poole at the same office. [email protected]
i will tell ya What Linzi told me.... She works thru Dr Barringtons office, but she works for the state. You only need her..... she is the one who came to my house and can refer each persons local Vet who would be coming to do your own. She is northwest Louisiana but there are people of course al over the state.
NPIP only testing is free; tests are free as well as her coming over. I paid not one dime for anything. Called, made an appt., she came, im done. THATS IT! Oh, and Linda she is so very very nice! Real pleasure to spend all those hours with! She will probably do each of yours, says she prefers to for the first time then just new ones after that.

The more I learn about chickens and chicken keeping, the more I learn that I will never learn enough. I hope I never have to give up keeping them!

Spoiled rotten baby with the sweetest face!
