"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Good morning Louisiana peeps....question from me for the day, I have one hen, Athena who I'm worried might really by an Athens. She is a noticeable size difference from the rest of the girls and she is definitely head hen. She is 9 weeks old. At what age do you know? I cannot have a rooster but I'm getting awfully attached to her.

2 of my loves! I'm gonna sing it to my world for a moment! Humor my good mood :p

August ought'9 we packed up our broken down beater car up north, quit our high paying city folk jobs that barely coveted rent (crazy cost of living) and headed for Louisiana. We had a 1 year old girl, was 5 months pregnant with my boy and cancer. It was hell that 1st year. I swear I met the devil. But guess what? Here we are. Alive and buffer than ever, a healthy family & honestly, all thanks to Louisiana. The docs here were the only ones to say we can save your boy (when I was sick and pregnant) - up north just wanted to save me and insurance wouldn't cover experimental or new procedures. Thanks to that move (that my amazing hubby made happen even in the most insane challenging of times) I'm here to see them. My girl is 5 years old, this is at her PreK graduation (I know I in now "preK" big whoop :lau I am always the one saying "prek is glorified daycare" but to me) -but that's a 5 year marker they said I wouldn't make.
I am so proud of them for being so perfect and of hubby and I for making all this happen despite what the world tells us. :)

Oh ya, topic....:)gig what's the topic)
and we are becoming farmers down south here and getting the chance to teach our kids what real food and work is...life is good... Life is amazing with chickens in it :bun

What breed? Most start crowing young lol but a few hold out. Pics are a huge help.

I just remembered that awhile back someone asked how we use yarrow as medicine. Today I am caring for my youngest that is sick with gunk in her chest. A kid in her class came to school sick and I guess passed it around. So she has yarrow tincture in her coffee along with taking Mucinex and Tylenol. I want to take her to the Dr, but she doesn't think she is that bad. Since she isn't running fever I will hold off on hauling her booty to the doctor.

To make Yarrow tincture I trim off 12-24inches of yarrow stem, leaving flowers and leaves intact. I allow the whole stem to dry for a few days. They don't have much moisture, so it doesn't take long. Then I trim off the leaf stalks and flower clusters, cutting them into small pieces that will fit into a glass canning jar. Then cover with strong plain Vodka (the higher the proof the better). Label jar with date and herb used, then place into a dark corner of a cupboard. Allow to steep and shake every now and then. After 2 months I strained into a clean jar and label "Yarrow tincure" and date from the original jar. We use 1/2tsp to 3/4 tsp in a small cup of hot tea or coffee and stir. When I am really sick with an upper resp cold I will use this 2 to 4 times a day until I start feeling better. Usually that is only 2 days.

DISCLAIMER: I am NOT a doctor and am not recommending that you do as I do or that it will help you recover from any illness.

But I do believe that we all should learn as much as we can about using food and plants to keep our bodies as healthy as possible.

I don't know what the limit is but there are some strange things they cut off for us. I have given as much as 30 ovations in one day without a problem. I have also had it stop working after 10 in one day and on some posts the thumbs up was just missing. Pictures, smilies, and spell check tends to go missing before you are prevented from ovating. People with golden feather membership tend to be cut off less then the free membership but we still get cut off. Speaking of... my spell check and smilies are off, guess I ovated too much. I'm trying, sorry for the spelling.
