August ought'9 we packed up our broken down beater car up north, quit our high paying city folk jobs that barely coveted rent (crazy cost of living) and headed for Louisiana. We had a 1 year old girl, was 5 months pregnant with my boy and cancer. It was hell that 1st year. I swear I met the devil. But guess what? Here we are. Alive and buffer than ever, a healthy family & honestly, all thanks to Louisiana. The docs here were the only ones to say we can save your boy (when I was sick and pregnant) - up north just wanted to save me and insurance wouldn't cover experimental or new procedures. Thanks to that move (that my amazing hubby made happen even in the most insane challenging of times) I'm here to see them. My girl is 5 years old, this is at her PreK graduation (I know I in now "preK" big whoop :lau I am always the one saying "prek is glorified daycare" but to me) -but that's a 5 year marker they said I wouldn't make.
I am so proud of them for being so perfect and of hubby and I for making all this happen despite what the world tells us. :)

and we are becoming farmers down south here and getting the chance to teach our kids what real food and work is...life is good... Life is amazing with chickens in it :bun

I picture this: of course lots of acres. Only one main entrance that quickly divides into private drives for each family. Each family has a house and enough land for personal use. Acres are used for the good of the compound, everyone helps as they are able contributing with their gifts. Some are more physically able than others. We all have each other's backs. But houses have their own area with trees. Wait, that is sounding like a hippie commun. But it's not bec each has and owns their own land and house. Yes, preppers encouraged. I can see it. Nice nice I say.
 
Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and offers about Prim. She laid a hard shelled egg today. Took her off the yogurt last week. Giving her cooked eggs/shells, spinach, layer feed, black sunflower, etc. if I get her a friend I want an RIR bec the two Black Stars hang together and the two Amercaunas hang together and Prim is alone. "Birds of a feather flock together" is true, so I will go with an RIR. that will put me 3 over city ordinance and 6 over subdivision restrictions. I don't want to be too bold. Want to stay under the radar.

Not sure if these pics are good enough but any thoughts if Athena is, in fact, maybe an Athens? She is 9 weeks old and about 20-30% larger than the rest of the girls!

I had no idea that you were interested in caponizing. I have my tools from China. The best. Have you participated in the thread Graphic Pics of my day learning to Caponize.? Great thread. That's where I ordered my tools. There is another thread run by hellbender Breeding for Production or something. He has a video that his son produced this week on learning to poulardizing. Capons also. They did over 100. Dying to see it. It should be released tomorrow. It should be on both sites. So interested in this.
