They get into your backyard?? My own cat can't get into our backyard unless he goes over the roof. We have chain link fence and he just refuses to walk along it. I have had raccoons and possums in front yard. I will definitely be on the lookout!!

My dogs don't have access, my cat does. Hard to keep a cat out. Snakes, raccoons, and possums can go anywhere. Don't know about the coyotes, but a few streets over a coyote was spotted with a cat in it's mouth and my granddaughter's cat is missing so we hope it didn't get her cat, too. You have to assume they can all get your chickens. There is a mighty strong attraction to chickens.

Hey, if a coyote makes it past I12, airline hwy, and old hammond hwy it may deserve a chicken! Just not MINE!!

Good morning peeps. Congrats to all new peeps owners, great pics everyone, welcome all newbies. Glad that you all are here.

I hope everyone is having a great morning. It's the weekend !!!!!!!

I had a fun night last night. I had a visitor that visited one of muscovy's nest and had a feast.

Say hello to my little dead friend.

He was hiding behind a sheet of plywood that was propped up against my fence. Evidently he ran my muscovy away and had a party with the eggs.

So my girl lost her nest.

Ants are taking over again. I had about 17 muscovy ducklings in a brooder INSIDE the garage. When I got home and checked on them, I found ants all in the brooder. I am puzzled as to how they got INSIDE the brooder. There was not a single ant on the floor in the garage. My poor babies were stomping around trying to get the ants off of them. I had to rush and get them out of the there and put them in the bathtub and filled the tub up and washed the ants off of the them.

I think I will have a special needs lamb. I noticed the pupil of one of my bottle fed babies and something didn't look right. I looked closely at his pupil and it appeard to be a pupil of a blind lamb. I did some research for comparison and yep, I found pics that looked just like it. This lamb has never ran into anything. He plays, runs, jumps with no problem. The only thing that I had noticed is that he would cry for me and I would be close to him but he never saw me. When I would call his name, he would look my way and run to me. He would always do that and I knew something was wrong about that but I didn't worry about it until last night when I picked him up and was rubbing and kissing on him. I"m sad about it but he can still live a happy and normal live. He may be partially blind now and I suspect he will be totally blind before too long. Here is a pic of him. You can see what the pupil looks like. My poor baby.

Well, have a great weekend everyone.

If you see me in the store doing my extreme couponing, please tell me to leave.

I need an intervention.

That was a big snake!
Poor little ducks. I bet they liked playing in the bathtub.
You'd be surprised just how well your lamb will do. One of my foals was born with only one eye. I was really upset at first. The more I learned, I found out it will really be an issue for her at all. She doesn't know she has a handicap. She will still be able to race. There are many more horses than you'd think racing with only one eye (or site in one eye). You'll be surprised at how well he'll do. My filly is doing great.

So, I put up the stinky mothball socks, and so far, no more snakes. YEAH!! THANKS

Heres another tip:

You buy the crystals separate. If you can't trap your coons, etc. Put spoon of this in coke in tuna can and put by coop. Put your pets up first. If not empty the next morning dispose before releasing pets. This only is for country people with no neighbors close. It usually works in 15 min. Entirely second hand knowledge because I've never had chickens before. The only loss I've had was one chicken in the coop and they think it was a mink. Got me a new wooden door to deter this again.

My lovely ameraucana might not make it :(
I went out for eggs and found her in a nest limp and barely panting. I immediately picked her up and brought her into a cool room & set her up comfy w/water. She was still fading out so I wet her down a little. She's slowly coming around. I hope she pulls through she's my favorite.

Fairly certain its heat stroke. She's not egg bound and lays small eggs. They all have fresh water and bricks in ice baths they're using as well as frozen jugs...but I did not put a frozen jug near nests
today :( I will be continuing to add one to the nest areas too now.
