First is Bertha in my utility room we're still working on healing brumble foot.
Second is Bertha and the hen that was attacked getting outside in the sun happy to find some bugs. Notice her pink bandage on her foot. Lol!
Next some one asked about egg size and breeds a while back. Cream colored egg the biggest is from gold laced Wyandotte . The darker brown is from our black australorp. Next is our Easter egger. And last is a bantam egg.
Last pic is berth enjoying some outside time. Pam

Hi. Back from Texas. Picked up Amanda from camp in Tyler.
Angel, I've noticed my Amercaunas panting before the others. I was gone for 24 hours, but started the fan on them tonight, Snow White was panting. I gave them cold watermelon late this afternoon. My frozen bottles and hangers are ready. I need to pick up electrolyte.
One of my hens, one of the Black Stars is laying eggs with a dark circle on the round end of the egg. What do you think it is? The eggs seem fine.

Thanks Pam. When I let the girls out this morning they ran to the screens and had a fresh green snack. I'm so happy the screens are finally growing.
Last year the Amercaunas were the first to pant and again this year. Then the RIR will pant and last the Black Stars. The bunnies aren't stressed yet but I started their fan. Jeff said last year doing too much artificial stuff can make them more suceptable to the heat bec if you can't get the frozen bottles out or the fan quits working they aren't heat tolerant, sort of like the artificial heat in winter. He knows a lot about chickens and I believe him. I'm just afraid to lose one to the heat. The fan also keeps mosquitoes off of them. Mine have a lot of shade and have already started standing in line to cool off their feet in the bird bath, something they do every summer. When I got them a kiddy pool so they could all stand in it at once, they wouldn't use it, they still stood in line for the bird bath. Lol

Someone at the feed store yesterday said they use garden neem oil extract (mixed with water in a pump sprayer, as per instruction) and spray down their chicken coop with it every two weeks in the summer and also if they see any on their chicken they dunk (bathe) their chickens in the same solution to rid them of lice and mites. Anyone have experience with this or advice for or against? Thanks for your help!

Welcome home!

Could the egg have gotten damp in that spot nestled in a nest maybe? My brown layers eggs sometimes have that ring on one end after being in the egg carton. I *thought* maybe the humidity change from nest to fridge eggs lol was a guess because I rest most of my eggs 2-5 days on the kitten counter and those don't get that discoloration, but if you got it too I dunno. I do eat those eggs and they've all been great so far tho!

Ya, I *thought* ameraucana were better equipped for the heat but seems they're the 1st effected now...hmmmm that sucks!

All of mine were panting yesterday except when they go to the edge of the woods in the shade. Jeff always has good advice! The only problem is the nesting box in the coop. I might put a make shift one in the shade by the woods.. I'm still getting a fan more to keep Mosquitos. Off. Pam
