One more garage chicken to go! There's 2!
I didnt see which one laid it. Lol But the nester with the big comb that eats mice lol is the one that "looks" like a roo I think it was the mouser! I need a cam down there! I can see it from my porh but not always watching.
I want 2 white eggs! Cmon chicky chicky!

I do have a bit of good news. Ron was outside with the dogs yesterday. Then he realized Buck was nowhere to be found. Buck opens the doors on his own. So Ron began to panic he realized only one place he could be. I don't trust either one around my chickens because their still puppies and have strong prey drives. Well Ron goes in the utility room where my chicks are and theirs Buck , he didn't hurt them but they all got a bath he licked them up good. Ron was in shock and relived he hadn't hurt them. So yea Buck he's really listening good. He also tracks so his training is coming along nicely. Pam

Y'all call them crayfish?

Are you in north LA, or..? I've always heard them called crawfish. I'm a little south of Baton Rouge- I very rarely travel farther north than Zachary. I think its crazy how much the name can vary, even in our own state!

It has been a VERY busy weekend. We haven't had a working tractor in ages, so we borrow a friend's sparsely. We help him with his cattle and horses, so he doesn't mind helping us back. It's been several months since the last time we used it, and yesterday our friend brought it over. We got so much work done! A LOT of dirt was hauled, dumped, spread, raked, built up, dug out. We have a pond that we pumped dry, and we've been wanting to dig it deeper so that we can build a pen around it for the ducks. It is currently 1/3 of the way dug out, but we've got more work to do this week on it. It is still very muddy, and the mud is very sticky, so we're trying to work around the edges and let it dry some. I'm so excited for it to be dug out all the way. That of course means there will be more work building a new pen, but I'm SO ready for the ducks to be out. They are very messy! I try to let them out to free range when I can, but I'll be darned if my ducks, which I hand raised and are going to start laying this month, get eaten by coyotes. So for now, we wait.

We have seven cow dogs, two of which are puppies of a large breed. Well one of the puppies got into a fight with my small/medium sized girl and got a small chunk out of her scruff. I bathed my baby twice and let her air dry, then sprayed the wound with Blue Kote. I then proceeded to baby her by feeding her leftover macaroni and giving her ice to chew on.

We differentiate our cow dogs and home dogs, because our cow dogs are for work and not play, but I couldn't help spoiling her a bit. After letting her lounge in the barn all day with ice to chew on, I rearranged our dogs and penned her back up. Hopefully everything will work out alright.

I weeded out part of the garden in between all of this. It is unfortunately in a low spot, so it got very flooded in the past few weeks with all the rain. We left it alone until just recently when it dried back out. It is a jungle! I only weeded two rows of beans, and I got four buckets stuffed to the brim with weeds. All the chickens and ducks loved it!

I got some fun photos and videos this week. I caught one of the silver laced wyandotte hens laying an egg! Sorry for posting so many photos! You can click to make them bigger.

I've been considering a small incubator for my house. We have a large one at the barn, but I'd like a small personal one for special hatches. These are the ones at my Tractor Supply. Do you guys know which one would be better?

Only a small amount of the weeds I pulled. The ones on the floor came out of the bucket, which barely made a dent.

Beautiful pics! I love pics! Im from cali, we called um crayfish and we used to use a string and chicken liver to fish them out and use the mudbugs as bait, didn't eat um! We didn't know what we were missing! I have had a weed shortage As in started using used bunny hay on the gardens as mulch and have no weeds now! Any hay that sprouts is a bonus, I just let it grow an extra week pull it and put it in a bunny bucket to feed the bunnies, full circle, no waste! The plants in the hay mulched garden are thriving and plants in the experiment garden are not so next season all the gardens get used bunny hay! Lol

I know I still don't trust him because he's a puppy a hundred pound puppy. I am consistent with training and hope after he's an adult I will be able to. Our last Shepard would not mess with them after I kept on her for a month. One day she saw me chasing them off the patio because I didn't want poo on the patio. After that she kept them off the patio. I'm careful but it can be done you have to be persistent and know your dog. Pam
