"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Y'all remember the article about the animal hoarder? There isn't enough room in the shelter so they are using one of our civic centers to temporarily house a ton of the birds. I saw a video today and some of the ducks were limping. It hurt my little heart. They seemed happy, though. I wish I could take in some of them!

Awesome!! I'm still not confident enough to go without a coop in our run, but it will definitely save us some money in the future!
You do have to brood a little longer if it is the winter months, and you have to be sure that your run is 100% predator proof- but yes! It saves you a lot of money and materials. I looked around for some photos and only found some from way back while we were building two pens.

All we added afterwards was doors, wire around everything, a roof, perches, and nesting boxes. This was several years ago, so its fun to see how much we've added since then.

If you can get her in one of those wire dog crates, that would be perfect. You could set her outside in the sunshine if possible. They are hard to get cozy in, and have worked for me in the past. Don't add any blankets or straw. Just the cage.

I wouldn't put any living thing in a cage in the sun in summertime. I think you'll have a dead chicken and it would be cruel. A lot of people on this thread have dealt with broody hens. I'd look for something else to do. I have heard about using a dog crate with food and water, in the shade with a fan.

That's not what I was referring to. I didn't mean putting her out in an unroofed cage in direct sunshine. I meant having her outside, somewhere not dark, and since there is a forecast for rain tomorrow I mentioned sunshine since a dark cloudy day does nothing for breaking broodiness. I would never put my birds out with no shade, and am a little hurt that you guys think I would. I'm sorry for coming across that way.

Then Amanda and I went on to Kintrygirl's house to check on her. She is definately recovering and she will be okay, so we can relax about that.

Glad you got good news! Sorry I never could go out there even though we live in the same town. My husband is actually still recovering from his surgery.

I forgot to show y'all this. A few days back I made a "cucumber tether ball" game for the girls after seeing it on pinterest. They had zero interest in it at first, so I went back inside to do other things. I came back outside later and the cucumber was completely gone! Lol, I guess they loved it! I wasn't even gone for too long!
