So my hen that is broody doesn't have any eggs under her. It has been a couple of weeks now and she is still in the nesting box. I have tried to put eggs under her so she isn't wasting her time and she will have none of it.

I went Thurs to the Minnesota State Fair. Will be returning 2 more days. It has been even more exciting because of having chickens and my future prospect of moving. With all my STUFF gone, my house rented, my car rented, I fell soooo much lighter. Yes, at moments I lament getting read of stuff I have collected and kept for years, and all most all my books. But I have not picked them up to reread.
in Oct I think the 23 to Nov 9 is the Louisiana State Fair in Shreveport. I plan on making it there. Being that Louisiana is were the original cowboy tradition started, I am going to make it a point to see at lest 1 rodeo. They were the Creole, Cajun, and in many cases X- Black slaves. I have been so impressed by how proud and aware of the great history of Louisiana their people are. I meat a Louisiana lady that told me that Bulldoging was originated by a famous black rodeo Louisiana cowboy. I looked it up, she was right. The famous Dixie was a bank note on a Louisiana bank, it was very popular because it had the reputation as being as good as gold in a time bank notes were often not worth the paper printed on. Or it was one day then not the next. land of the Dixie I had been once corrected not land of Dixie
I will see you all then, I am so excited. I have reservation at a RV park just West of Sheveport.
You need to "break the broody". If I'm wrong, someone please correct me, but I was always under the belief that it starts to impact their health if it goes on too long. I put my broody hens in a dog kennel in my barn with food and water. I keep her there for a day, then let her out with the others to see wat she does. If she goes back into the nesting box, I put her back in the dog kennel for another day. I keep this up until she's back to old self. Someone will give you l the technical "stuff"...lol...my info was the "basic"...lol...So my hen that is broody doesn't have any eggs under her. Let me know how yhe caponing goes. I'm really courious about it.
Well, I did my first ever home butchering. And when I say butcher, you KNOW what I mean. I can't tell you how many times I heard to not go into it unprepared. Well, the knife was cr^p, Most of the work was done with butchering shears. Dull, dull knife. I won't make that mistake again. It took almost 2 hrs to set up, dispatch the bird, practice on caponizing and finally to process. He's soaking in ice water now. One thing I do know. I'm not going to attempt this on live birds for a while. I was able to find his "beans" but if he wasn't already dead, I would have killed him two or three times. Practice, practice practice. He was about 20 wks old so will crock pot him in a couple of days. Overall, I'm satisfied that I can do it. The processing wasn't hard.
Aimee and AJ went to Dallas on vacation yesterday and went to Medieval Times last night. Wonderful time. They ate the old foods and watched a jousting match. She has pictures.
