She was greatful they sedated her to put a tube in her lungs ao she was out for the ST.I'm greatful the hospital gave them a hospitality room for a few days. Yes, thanks for asking. I finally got a tube to give fluids to the pullet that Pam was helping me with, and I've given her 1/2 cc of tylan for four days. I really think the water (with vitamins and electrolytes) saved her. After tubing every fours hours for a day she was much more alert. After half of the second day she was absolutely devouring her food. She has one last dose of tylan, but I went ahead and put her outside because she was too active to stay in the shower. She's gained three ounces back in the three days since I weighed her last.

There are a couple of others who I think are good candidates for the tylan, mostly for their eye problems. I can't even get one open to flush and medicate. I have just enough time to start and finish the tylan before we leave for Thanksgiving.

Everyone else is great. Most have lost about half of their dry pox scabs, and only one still had wet pox.

That's great! I'll bet you feel relieved :) From reading the posts it sounds like you've gotten a good education for this treatment and other ailments. Congrats.

He no longer fools with the buckeyes and was supposed to have been taken off the list. Apparently it is out of date. He has been breeding for 40 yrs. He said they aren't all their cracked up to be. At least the line he had. Said you have to be very careful to get a good bloodline because they've been crossed too much with RIR's. The birds he had didn't lay well. I'd read online somewhere that a lot of folks tried/try to turn a buck off the name and don't have good lines. Anyway, I think I'm giving up on this breed unless I can get a direct line from somewhere like Jeff Lays birds. But that is another story. I tried contacting him again by phone and email and I get no response. Why have a website with your contact info if there is no intention of replying to inquiries. Do folks just not answer their phone this time of year. I tried breeders in Florida and California for Dorkings and got no response either.

Let me just share. I have had a terrible time getting the show quality birds that my kids need for their 4-H projects. The most frequent responses was ignoring, being short, rude or snippy. It happens! We are all nice chicken people here, but not everyone is like that. Especially if they already have an attitude and have something that other people don't. Bad combination.

Just keep at it until you find the right, FRIENDLY and helpful chicken people. They are out there, so don't be discouraged. I finally found a super nice lady that has bred red bantam cochins for MANY years that is super nice and will respond and give me her opinion and direction when I send her questions. Such a relief.

Butterball doesn't think this cold weather is very nice! Lol! She hung out in my daughter pocket for an hour yesterday while they picked the last of the peppers. And Butterball snatched up any pepper leaves she could reach.
