"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

That makes sense. I was browsing the predators forum and some people were adamant that a Cooper's hawk wouldn't go for a chicken, while others said they would. We're pretty close to the "winter grounds" on the map, so I wonder if I should expect increased sightings? If that's the case, we may have to adjust our habits for winter.

I found out yesterday before the attack that my FiL may be planning to send us home with juvenile silkies. It's not the same to me, but it plugged the hole in my 5-yo's heart.

Now driving 15-16 hours with chickens is something I've never done, but no one would be surprised. I'm actually getting a little excited about it. Or maybe I'll just cuddle a few and call it good.

Really sorry about the stupid hawk

We have lost our fair share when our chickens are out in the yard. But I think its owls. Our chicken play yards are covered now and we have been leaving them in there.

Honestly, I think any type hawk depending on how hungry it is would go after whatever it perceives as food. I would imagine you've thought about it but you could put some of the netting up. Use the fence in your yard to hold one side up. Maybe section part of the yard off. I did a quick search and found a post on another forum where someone suggested used fish netting. If your close to the coast you may be able to find used shrimp nets, could maybe lash them together or something. Just throwing out an idea for you.
Something like this V doesn't look to expensive to build.

My chickens have killed several snaked this year including one copperhead that pretty good sized . Guess the small ones they killed they thought were worms! lol

Okay, I'm getting pretty discouraged! I just finished dealing with some respertory problem in my chickens and now it seems two hens and a roo have puss pockets around their eyes. Anyone know what this is? FYI they all have been recently wormed too.

Pics? Sounds like what I've had with the pox. 1/2 cc of Tylan 50 given orally is what I used in the worst cases. Mine have had bubbles in their eyes, and a few get stuck shut and won't open. The ones stuck for more than a day or two get the tylan. The others get a saline flush and antibiotic ointment in the eyes.

You use neosporin? Or something else for the ointment? I have tylan 200.

So stinking cute! I just wish the rest of them would hold still for pictures. They are so worried about getting back to mom. I guess I will have to do a "family" photo shoot of these little Serama so I can have pictures of all of them.

Yes, neosporin. I never treated my roo because it cleared up on its own, for him.

His got worse before it was better. You can use a few drops if VetRX before you jump straight to the tylan. People say it doesn't work because it's basically Vicks vaporub for chickens, but I've had good results with it.
