"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Pam, what do you think about me taking the eggs out rather than leaving in the bator?

Is there a specific temp to shoot for? Didn't Linda say 75 degrees for 2 hrs.

Thats what she said. I would take them out and but back in .Instead of turning your bator off and having it reheat. Pam

So busy and beat :th !!!! Hubby is out for work and I guess I'm just not up to par doing everything by myself. But chickens are tucked in nice and tight.

I don't do a set time or take eggs out to cool down. Because my luck I WOULD FORGET TO PUT THEM BACK for too long! I would, really. So I open, do what needs done. Humidity, maybe candle and moving eggs positions, then I close. It takes awhile to come back up to temperature. So basically I'm just not getting uptight about the fact that I have the incubator open for a few minutes. I just try to go back and check it later to make sure all temps are good. I guess it's my modified version.

Sean what is it in selling you?? Seriously, it's been some loooooong days around here. I'm thinking I might have said I could sell chicks? I do have some young mixed barred rock/buff Orpington, a tiny frizzled white Cochin (he had 5toes per foot so my kids can't show it), a Olive egger and a BCM that appear to be cockerels. I'm really leaning towards thinking our older white Cochin bantam chick might be a cockerel too :( its 4 weeks and cute and friendly as can be! Little turd always tries to eat my freckles and loves to snuggle a knee. I will cross my fingers for that one just a bit longer. Anyway if you want to buy any of what I listed you can send me a pm and we can work out details.

So its my a few days until the 6 eggs under the other broody are due. Saturday or Sunday. Unless the cold slows them down. Terrible weather for it. She may get moved. I'm hoping for Cochin's that can go to show.

Just some random photos from this evening. Roger Bacon d giving the STINK EYE! He comes after me unless I have something in my hand to block him. He has taken the #1Brat spot in the chicken barn. But I just candled eggs this morning and looks good so far. So he gets a pass. Roger, we will be Bacon your children ;)

thought you were going to sell chickens. Pam
I am but I'm only going to sell white rocks and australorps. (hatching eggs mainly) Well, maybe a few others. WHAT I meant to say is the serious breeding I'm only going to do the white rocks and australorps. I'm going to get a German NH and mix with my one Coronation Sussex and Blosl pullet to make sex links. That's what will sell. I'll be doing this in the fall to sell POL pullets in the spring. I keep coming back to the Crested Cream Legbars. I'm looking to get docile, easy going birds that don't cause drama.

On a humorous note, Clint has been buying eggs for me to make his breakfast. I told him I got one egg from my blue egg layer, the only one laying, and he immediately stopped buying eggs. Today he wanted to know where are all the eggs that MY chickens were supposed to be laying. I told him the new pullet layer is giving me one tiny egg every 3 days. Buy them or wait for the others to start laying.

I start getting concerned when my hatching eggs are so far apart. I had two hatch about 5 hrs apart and nothing for about 14 hrs. I can't candle worth a darn so I never know what's perking. I can tell the clears and that's all. Both of these that hatched are Basques (yea) Looking at me when I talk to them. No other breed has ever done that for me. My little diva white Chihuahua Poo is so interested in getting her babies hatched so she can watch them.

Ok, so the egg carton goes on top of the screen, or the screen goes on top of the egg carton? I'm tempted to try it with the carton on the bottom. Do your eggs hatch inside the carton, or you lay them on their sides?
Carton with dime size hole in the bottom for air flow. I put it on the screen and just have the large side up and hatch that way. They move away from the carton and I have a wash cloth on the screen to have a sleeping place. This is just what I was told to do and others may have better ways to do it. I like it because the carton is safer for the eggs. I am no expert my any means.
